UASB reactor effluent disinfection by ozone and chlorine

Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part A, 2015
This research studied the sequential ozone and chlorine process with respect to, the inactivation of indicator bacteria and the formation of ozone disinfection byproducts in sanitary wastewater effluent. The applied ozone doses were 5, 8 and 10 mg.O3.L(-1), followed by chlorine doses of 10, 20 and 30 mg.L(-1), respectively.

An integral dynamic model for the UASB reactor

Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 1986
AbstractIn this article a dynamic model of a continuous working UASB reactor is described. It results from the integration of the fluid flow pattern in the reactor, the kinetic behavior of the bacteria (where inhibition and limitation were taken into account), and the mass transport phenomena between different compartments and different phases.

Microaeration for hydrogen sulfide removal in UASB reactor

Bioresource Technology, 2014
The removal of hydrogen sulfide from biogas by microaeration was studied in Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) reactors treating synthetic brewery wastewater. A fully anaerobic UASB reactor served as a control while air was dosed into a microaerobic UASB reactor (UMSB). After a year of operation, sulfur balance was described in both reactors.

Anaerobic sewage treatment in a one-stage UASB reactor and a combined UASB-Digester system

Water Research, 2004
The treatment of sewage at 15 degrees C was investigated in a one-stage upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor and a UASB-Digester system. The latter consists of a UASB reactor complemented with a digester for mutual sewage treatment and sludge stabilisation.

Kinetics of Biotransformation of 2,4-Dichlorophenol using UASB-Reactor

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 2004
Chlorophenol compounds are environmental pollutants that are both anthropogenic and xenobiotics. Some of these chemicals are carcinogens and are both toxic to a number biochemical processes. Biotransformation of 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) was studied in the presence of glucose on an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor (UASB) using mixed culture ...

Full Scale UASB Reactor Performance in the Brewery Industry

Environmental Technology, 2001
In this paper the 7 year experience of the Oriental Breweries, located in Kumi, Korea utilizing a full-scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor for the anaerobic pretreatment of brewery wastewater is presented. The anaerobic pretreatment system selected has successfully achieved the desired treatment efficiency for the brewery wastewater ...

Anaerobic digestion of baker's yeast wastewater using a UASB reactor and a hybrid UASB reactor

2010
The start-up and step-up operation of two 16-liter, continuously operated, upflow anaerobic reactors receiving baker's yeast wastewater is presented in this thesis. The two reactors (A and B) were almost identical in construction. Reactor A was a conventional upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor, and reactor B was a hybrid reactor.

Sludge blanket of UASB reactor: Mathematical simulation

Water Research, 1997
Blanket height is an important aspect of UASB reactor design. It regulates the solid concentration reaching the gas-solid separator (GSS) and, thereby, prevents sludge washout. The maximum organic load which a reactor can assimilate depends on proper proportioning of the reactor height into the bed and blanket. A condition of force equilibrium has been

High strength sewage treatment in a UASB reactor and an integrated UASB-digester system

Bioresource Technology, 2008
The treatment of high strength sewage was investigated in a one-stage upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor and a UASB-digester system. The one-stage UASB reactor was operated in Palestine at a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 10h and at ambient air temperature for a period of more than a year in order to asses the system response to the ...

Anaerobic treatment of leachates in UASB reactors

Journal of Chemical Technology & Biotechnology, 1992
AbstractLeachates from the solid urban wastes landfill of Asturias were characterized and treated in upflow anaerobic sludge blanket laboratory reactors. The highest percentage of COD removal was 88% for a hydraulic retention time of 2–4 days. Gas production was close to the theoretical values, with CH4 content up to 88%.
