Potentially Overlooked Risk for Neuropsychiatric Symptoms in Children: Montelukast Treatment. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Paediatr Child Health
ABSTRACT Background Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist commonly used in allergic diseases. In this study, we investigated the frequency, severity and risk factors for neuropsychiatric side effects and sleep disorders associated with montelukast in children.

Impact of Modulator Therapy on the Chronic Colonization of Lower Respiratory Tract Pathogens in Children: Data From Cystic Fibrosis Registry of Turkey. [PDF]

open access: yesPediatr Pulmonol
ABSTRACT Background Modulators have revolutionized cystic fibrosis (CF) management, but their effects on respiratory pathogens remain unclear. This study evaluated changes in lower respiratory tract pathogen detection after modulator therapy in children with CF, registered in the Cystic Fibrosis Registry of Turkey.

Prognostic significance of medical therapy in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 10, Issue 6, Page 3677-3689, December 2023., 2023
Abstract Aims The use of guideline‐directed medical therapy (GDMT) among patients with heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) remains suboptimal. The SMYRNA study aims to identify the clinical factors for the non‐use of GDMT and to determine the prognostic significance of GDMT in patients with HFrEF in a real‐life setting.

Size‐Dependent Locomotion Ability of Surface Microrollers on Physiologically Relevant Microtopographical Surfaces

open access: yesSmall, Volume 19, Issue 47, November 22, 2023., 2023
The smaller microrollers suffer from hydrodynamic barriers due to microtopography of the cells, while the bigger microroller can freely locomote on the biological surface. The surface is microtopography for the small microroller and impedes its locomotion, while the surface behaves like a roughness for the big microroller.

Risks for human health related to the presence of grayanotoxins in certain honey

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 21, Issue 3, March 2023., 2023
Abstract The European Commission asked EFSA for a scientific opinion on the risks for human health of the presence of grayanotoxins (GTXs) in ‘certain honey’ from Ericaceae plants. The risk assessment included all structurally related grayananes occurring with GTXs in ‘certain’ honey. Oral exposure is associated with acute intoxication in humans. Acute

High‐Performance Magnetic FePt (L10) Surface Microrollers Towards Medical Imaging‐Guided Endovascular Delivery Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 32, Issue 8, February 16, 2022., 2022
FePt (L10) film‐coated magnetic surface microrollers outperform the previous ones with other magnetic films during surface locomotion against the fluidic flow direction. They also exhibit high imaging contrast during magnetic resonance and photoacoustic medical imaging‐based tracking of the microrollers in ex vivo settings and high biocompatibility ...

SARS‐CoV‐2 infection and venous thromboembolism after surgery: an international prospective cohort study

open access: yesAnaesthesia, Volume 77, Issue 1, Page 28-39, January 2022., 2022
Summary SARS‐CoV‐2 has been associated with an increased rate of venous thromboembolism in critically ill patients. Since surgical patients are already at higher risk of venous thromboembolism than general populations, this study aimed to determine if patients with peri‐operative or prior SARS‐CoV‐2 were at further increased risk of venous ...
