Artificial light at night (ALAN) is a stronger inhibitor of overwintering dormancy than urban warming in mosquitoes

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 5, May 2026.
Low intensities of warm white ALAN were a stronger inhibitor of diapause initiation than urban warming, indicating that changes in brightness or light colour may not be sufficient to mitigate ecological impacts and ALAN from common sources can extend seasonal mosquito biting activity and reproduction into late autumn.

Enhanced sensitivity of the urban heat island effect to summer temperatures induced by urban expansion

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2019
A suitable thermal environment is important for the economy, society and public health in urban areas. However, the understanding of the relationship between the urban heat island (UHI) effect and background temperature (T-UHI) is very limited.

Shifting the urban heat island clock in a megacity: a case study of Hong Kong

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2018
With increasing levels of urbanization in the near future, understanding the impact of urbanization on urban heat islands (UHIs) is critical to adapting to regional climate and environmental changes.

Urban Heat Island Study Based on Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System: Correlation between Land Cover and Surface Temperature [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
Significant changes in urban environmental characteristics such as altered land use and a higher population density contribute to the formation of the urban heat island (UHI) phenomena.

Supersymmetric W-algebras

open access: yes, 2019
We develop a general theory of $W$-algebras in the context of supersymmetric vertex algebras. We describe the structure of $W$-algebras associated with odd nilpotent elements of Lie superalgebras in terms of their free generating sets. As an application,

Assessment of urban heat Island vulnerability using sustainability-focused framework: A case study of Thailand's Bangkok Metropolis

open access: yesCurrent Research in Environmental Sustainability
This research assesses the urban heat island (UHI) vulnerability of Thailand's Bangkok metropolis using a sustainability-focused assessment framework which encompasses three vulnerability components: exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity.

Sheared turbulent flows and wake dynamics of an idled floating tidal turbine

open access: yesNature Communications
Ocean energy extraction is on the rise. While tides are the most predictable amongst marine renewable resources, turbulent and complex flows still challenge reliable tidal stream energy extraction and there is also uncertainty in how devices change the ...

Global well-posedness and scattering for the defocusing energy-critical nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation in $\R^{1+4}$

open access: yes, 2006
We obtain global well-posedness, scattering, uniform regularity, and global $L^6_{t,x}$ spacetime bounds for energy-space solutions to the defocusing energy-critical nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation in $\R\times\R^4$.
