Frictional Duality Observed during Nanoparticle Sliding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
One of the most fundamental questions in tribology concerns the area dependence of friction at the nanoscale. Here, experiments are presented where the frictional resistance of nanoparticles is measured by pushing them with the tip of an atomic force ...

Charge vibration behaviour in polyimide under the pulse voltage with different rise and fall times

open access: yesHigh Voltage, 2022
High‐voltage electronic equipment is widely used in power systems, which normally operate under the pulse voltage condition. However, compared to DC or AC stress, the electrical insulation suffers a more severe ageing process under a pulse voltage with ...

UHV piezoelectric translator [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 1986
Abstract A UHV compatible piezoelectric translator has been developed to correct for angular misalignments in the crystals of a UHV X-ray monochromator. The unit is small, bakeable to 150°C, and use only ceramic materials for insulation. We report on the construction details, vacuum compatibility, mechanical properties, and uses of the device.

Holonomies of gauge fields in twistor space 5: amplitudes of gluons and massive scalars

open access: yes, 2012
Scattering amplitudes of gluons coupled with a pair of massive scalars, so-called massive scalar amplitudes, provide the simplest yet physically useful examples of massive amplitudes.
