A Functional 2D Carbon Allotrope Combining Nanoporous Graphene and Biphenylene Segments

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis of a novel nanoporous graphene (NPG) is reported with biphenylene segments via thermal fusion of 12‐armchair porous graphene nanoribbons grown on gold surfaces. Characterization using STM, AFM, and DFT reveals low‐defect semiconducting behaviour and tunable band gaps.

Cohomology of group theoretic Dehn fillings I: Cohen-Lyndon type theorems

open access: yes, 2019
This is the first paper of three papers in a row aiming to study cohomology of group theoretic Dehn fillings. In the present paper, we prove a particular free product structure, which is termed the Cohen-Lyndon property, of Dehn filling kernels.

Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

Quantification of segregation dynamics in ice mixtures

open access: yes, 2009
(Abridged) The observed presence of pure CO2 ice in protostellar envelopes is attributed to thermally induced ice segregation, but a lack of quantitative experimental data has prevented its use as a temperature probe. Quantitative segregation studies are

Suppressing Metal–Molecule Charge Transfer With a Phosphorus Interlayer

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Phosphorus forms stable reconstructions with remarkable properties on various metal substrates. Here, using a spectroscopic approach, its role as an effective buffer layer on Cu(110) is demonstrated, preventing charge transfer to adsorbed Zn‐tetraphenylporphyrins (ZnTPP).

X-ray photoemission spectroscopy of La(0.67)Ca(0.33)MnO(3) films

open access: yes, 1997
We have performed x-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) on thin films of (001) and (200) oriented La(0.67)Ca(0.33)MnO(3) grown on (100) and (110) SrTiO(3) substrates by off-axis sputtering. The films were examined by XPS without exposing them to air. We

Microwave Absorption for Detection of Dirac Fermions in SnTe Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Microwave absorption can detect Dirac fermions in samples exposed to the atmosphere. Results showed that although topological surface states are robust against environmental degradation, they are not detectable by electrical transport measurements. Hence, microwave absorption can detect Dirac fermions even in samples whose surfaces have deteriorated ...

Effects of torrefaction on energy properties of Eucalyptus grandis wood [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Torrefaction is a thermal treatment that promotes homogenization and improvement of energy properties of biomass. This study aims to evaluate the effects of torrefaction on the main energy properties of Eucalyptus grandis wood.
