Efficacy of internal fixation with mini plate and internal fixation with hollow screw for Regan-Morrey type II and III ulna coronoid fractures

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2018
Background Ulna coronoid fracture is a complicated injury and occurred in the coronal plane. Undeniably, there is no universally accepted approach for treating ulna coronoid fractures.

Customized 3D-Printed Resurfacing Arthroplasty for the Treatment of Severely Malunited Distal Humerus Associated With Posttraumatic Elbow Stiffness: A Case Report and Review of the Literature. [PDF]

open access: yesOrthop Surg
We report a male patient who presented elbow stiffness and grievous malunion of the distal humerus due to delayed treatment after distal humerus fracture. A cementless and stemless resurfacing prosthesis was customized for the distal humerus based on contralateral articular anatomy using 3D‐printing technique with Co‐Cr‐Mo alloy.

Segmentation of cortical bone, trabecular bone, and medullary pores from micro‐CT images using 2D and 3D deep learning models

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Computed tomography (CT) enables rapid imaging of large‐scale studies of bone, but those datasets typically require manual segmentation, which is time‐consuming and prone to error. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) offer an automated solution, achieving superior performance on image data.

Exposure of both the radius and ulna through a single posterior incision: a technical note

open access: yesSICOT-J, 2015
Fractures of both the radius and ulna are usually treated with two separate incisions and rarely with one single incision. However, both methods have disadvantages. For this we describe a relatively safe single straight posterior incision for exposure of

Several occurrences of osteomyelitis in dinosaurs from a site in the Bauru Group, Cretaceous of Southeast Brazil

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigates the occurrence of osteomyelitis in non‐avian dinosaurs, focusing on the Ibirá locality, a site with a high incidence of this pathological condition. We analyzed six new osteopathic sauropod specimens from the Upper Cretaceous of Brazil.

A proximodistal gradient in bone structure and mechanics in the wings of Seba's short‐tailed bat, Carollia perspicillata

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Bats possess the remarkable ability to fly, and with this, distinctive wing bone properties. We investigated the structural, mechanical, and compositional properties of the humerus, radius, metacarpals, and proximal and middle phalanges of Carollia perspicillata, an approximately 15 g fruit‐eating bat native to the Neotropics.

Distal radius fracture malunion: Importance of managing injuries of the distal radio-ulnar joint. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: Distal radius malunion is a major complication of distal radius fractures, reported in 0 to 33% of cases. Corrective osteotomy to restore normal anatomy usually provides improved function and significant pain relief. We report the outcomes in

Periprosthetic Fracture of the Ulna—A Case Report [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Wrist Surgery, 2015
After resection of the radial head, the load transmission through the forearm is changed dramatically. Most of the axial load is transmitted to the ulna. This can happen through the interosseous membrane, if intact, thus preventing proximal migration of theradius.

Radiographer Preliminary Image Evaluation Accuracy in Interpreting Paediatric Trauma Radiographs

open access: yesJournal of Medical Radiation Sciences, EarlyView.
Radiographer preliminary image evaluation (PIE) is a patient safety mechanism where radiographers provide a written comment describing potential pathology in radiographs they have acquired. This can assist emergency referrers in making a diagnosis when a radiologist's report is unavailable.

Forearm Fractures in Children [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
__Abstract__ The forearm consists of the radius and ulna which are connected by the proximal and distal radioulnar joints, the interosseous membrane and several muscles.
