Ideal and Ultimate Tensile Strength of a Solid Body
High Temperature, 2018The mechanical stability of an ideal elastic solid under infinitesimal and finitesimal changes in its state parameters is considered. The temperature and density dependences of the isothermic moduli of bulk compression K, simple shear, and tetragonal shear in a Lennard-Jones face-centered cubic (FCC) crystal have been determined by means of molecular ...

Fatigue strength dependence on the ultimate tensile strength and hardness in magnesium alloys
International Journal of Fatigue, 2015Abstract The relationships between fatigue strength and ultimate tensile strength as well as hardness have been studied in high-strength NZK alloys (Mg– y Nd– z Zn– x Zr) and other magnesium alloys. In the absence of casting defects, clear linear relationships have been found between the fatigue strength and the ultimate tensile strength and the ...

The ultimate tensile strength of coach peel self-piercing riveting joints
Strength of Materials, 2013Due to the increased use of lightweight sheet materials, there has been a significant increase in the use of self-pierce riveting. This paper deals with the ultimate tensile strength of coach peel self-pierce riveted joints. The online window technique was introduced in the coach peel self-pierce riveting processes for evaluating the quality of joints.

Ultimate tensile deformation and strength capacities of bolted-angle connections
Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2014Abstract This paper reports an experimental study of 31 bolted double-angle connections under a pure tension load. Failure modes such as angle rupture and bolt tension rupture were observed. The test results included load versus deformation curve, ultimate tensile deformation and strength.

Ultimate tensile strength of tooth structures
Dental Materials, 2004This study determined the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of enamel (E), dentin (D) and dentin-enamel junction (DEJ) using the microtensile technique. It was hypothesized that the UTS of dental structures varies according to location and nature.Intact occlusal enamel surfaces from extracted human third molars were etched with 37% phosphoric acid and ...

An estimate of the ultimate tensile strength of water
Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1976An estimate is made of the ultimate tensile strength of water with data from previously reported isochores obtained using the Berthelot tube method. The agreement with the theoretical values predicted by Temperley's theory (1947) is most satisfactory.

Analysis of tensile test beyond the ultimate tensile strength
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 1992Abstract The strain of tensile test specimens in the domain beyond their ultimate tensile strength was analysed by means of a tensile test machine supplemented by a television camera and computer. The work served to verify the feasibility of computing the strain parameters by a routine where the inputs are only data describing the force versus ...

The ultimate tensile strength of metal and ceramic-matrix composites
Acta Metallurgica et Materialia, 1993The tensile strength of ceramic and metal matrix composites is subject to an important role of the fiber/matrix interface. The mechanical properties of this interface dictate the stress concentration that develops in fibers that surround a failed fiber. An analysis of this phenomenon is used to illustrate interface conditions that sufficiently diminish

Ultimate tensile strength of fetal and adult human tendons
Journal of Biomechanics, 1970Abstract Ultimate tensile strengths of human tendons were determined with an evaluation of the following criteria: adult or fetal; embalmed or unembalmed; from superior limb or inferior limb; and associated with extensor muscle or flexor muscle.
