Collagen Cross-linking and Ultimate Tensile Strength in Dentin

Journal of Dental Research, 2004
Several studies have indicated differences in bond strength of dental materials to crown and root dentin. To investigate the potential differences in matrix properties between these locations, we analyzed upper root and crown dentin in human third molars for ultimate tensile strength and collagen biochemistry.

The yield and ultimate tensile strength of steel welds

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 1997
Abstract The design of welding alloys to match the ever advancing properties of newly developed steels is not an easy task. It is traditionally attained by experimental trial and error, modifying compositions and welding conditions until a satisfactory result is discovered.

Ultimate tensile strength of an artificial bulk superconductor with voids

Superconductor Science and Technology, 2006
Rare earth based bulk superconductors originally have many voids and cracks. Thus their ultimate tensile strengths are not material constants but apparent ones depending on the voids and cracks in each bulk. In this study, based on the observations of the surface of the actual specimens, artificial samples with voids were generated for numerical stress

Ultimate tensile strength of composites exhibiting fiber fragmentation

Composites Science and Technology, 1996
An estimate of the achievable longitudinal strength of fiber-reinforced composite systems is provided by models that are based on fiber fragmentation, interface sliding and global load sharing. A simple model is shown to provide a compact expression for the longitudinal strength and to closely approximate the values obtained from more detailed ...

Effect of Gamma Irradiation on Ultimate Tensile Strength of Enamel and Dentin

Journal of Dental Research, 2009
The effect of gamma irradiation therapy on the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of enamel and dentin in relation to prism orientation, dentin tubule orientation, and location is unknown. It was hypothesized that tubule and prism orientation, location, and irradiation have an effect on the UTS of dental structures.

Application of crosslinkers to dentin collagen enhances the ultimate tensile strength

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, 2006
AbstractThe stabilization of dentin collagen with biocompatible crosslinking agents may be of clinical importance to improve dentin bond strength. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of three collagen crosslinking agents on the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of undemineralized and demineralized dentin.

Tensile properties of the annulus fibrosus

European Spine Journal, 1993
Part I of this study showed that collagen fibres do need not need to be continuous to reinforce the annulus fibrosus, and that 15-mm-wide samples of annulus retain about 44% of their in situ stiffness and strength when stretched vertically. Part II investigated the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and fatigue life of such samples.

Effect of the Association of Nystatin with a Tissue Conditioner on its Ultimate Tensile Strength

Journal of Prosthodontics, 2006
Purpose: This study evaluated the ultimate tensile strength of a tissue conditioner without nystatin incorporation (GI—control group) and the same tissue conditioner modified by the addition of nystatin in two concentrations: GII—500,000 International Units (U) and GIII—1,000,000 U, in which each milligram of the medicament corresponded ...

An ultimate tensile strength dependence on processing for consolidated metal matrix composites

Acta Metallurgica et Materialia, 1995
The ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of metal and intermetallic matrix unidirectional composites can be significantly lower than expected from the rule of mixtures prediction. One possible explanation is that the fibers in the as-processed state are in a residual state of stress and in some cases are broken because of the inhomogeneous nature of the ...

Phase, microstructure and tensile strength of Al–Al2O3–C hybrid metal matrix composites

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2020
The aim of the present study is to investigate the effect of alumina (Al2O3)–carbon (C) reinforcement on the properties of aluminium matrix. Aluminium matrix reinforced with Al2O3–carbon (2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10 wt.%) in equal proportion was prepared by stir ...
