Contribution of a nearby Pulsar to Cosmic Rays observed at Earth [PDF]

open access: yesAstropart.Phys. 25 (2006) 226-232, 2006
Contribution of nearby pulsars to the cosmic rays observed at Earth has been studied. It is found that the experimental bound on amplitude of cosmic ray anisotropy may produce significant constraint on the efficiency of converting pulsar rotational energy to emitted particles kinetic energy.

SLAC T-510: Radio emission from particle cascades in the presence of a magnetic field

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
Cosmic ray induced particle cascades radiate in radio frequencies in the Earth’s atmosphere. Geomagnetic and Askaryan emission provide an effective way to detect ultra-high energy cosmic rays.

Radiation Hardened Infrared Photodetectors Based on a Narrow Bandgap Conjugated Polymer Semiconductor

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
A blackbody‐sensitive infrared photodetector comprised of an open‐shell conjugated polymer demonstrates high sensitivity without cooling and exceptional radiation hardness, surpassing inorganic compound semiconductor devices. This functionality, inherent to the polymer semiconductor, provides a new frontier for low‐cost, size, weight, and power space ...

Ultra high-energy cosmic ray observations [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2008
The year 2007 has furnished us with outstanding results about the origin of the most energetic cosmic rays: a flux suppression as expected from the GZK-effect has been observed in the data of the HiRes and Auger experiments and correlations between the positions of nearby AGN and the arrival directions of trans-GZK events have been observed by the ...

Air Shower Detection by Arrays of Radio Antennas [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2019
Antenna arrays are beginning to make important contributions to high energy astroparticle physics supported by recent progress in the radio technique for air showers. This article provides an update to my more extensive review published in Prog.

Alternative Solid‐State Synthesis Route for Highly Fluorinated Disordered Rock‐Salt Cathode Materials for High‐Energy Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a tailored solid‐state route to enhance DRX fluorination and electrochemical performance. Using unconventional precursors, Li6MnO4, MnF2, and TiO2, prevents Mn‐based intermediates, which do not accommodate fluorines, enabling the formation of highly fluorinated DRX with a composition of Li1.23Mn0.40Ti0.37O2−yFy (y = 0.29–0.34 ...

The influence of cosmic-rays on the magnetorotational instability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We present a linear perturbation analysis of the magnetorotational instability in the presence of the cosmic rays. Dynamical effects of the cosmic rays are considered by a fluid description and the diffusion of cosmic rays is only along the magnetic field lines.

Superheavy gravitinos and ultra-high energy cosmic rays [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, 2019
We argue that the superheavy gravitinos that we had previously proposed as candidates for Dark Matter can offer a possible explanation for the ultra-high energy cosmic ray (UHECR) events observed at the Pierre Auger Observatory, via gravitino anti-gravitino annihilation in the `skin' of neutron stars.

The Pierre Auger Observatory: latest results and future perspectives

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2018
The Pierre Auger Observatory is the largest ultrahigh-energy cosmic ray observatory in the world. The huge amount of high quality data collected since 2004 up to now led to great improvements in our knowledge of the ultra-energetic cosmic rays.

The Curious Concept That Almost Nobody Seemed to Care About at First: Virtual Particles in the Post‐War Period**

open access: yesBerichte zur Wissenschaftsgeschichte, EarlyView.
Abstract Short‐lived, unobservable, and not subject to the usual rules of conservation of energy and momentum, virtual particles—an integral part of the conceptual framework of quantum field theory (QFT)—exhibit a number of curious characteristics which, in recent decades, have in part fueled important discussions about their ontological status ...
