How dense can one pack spheres of arbitrary size distribution?
We present the first systematic algorithm to estimate the maximum packing density of spheres when the grain sizes are drawn from an arbitrary size distribution. With an Apollonian filling rule, we implement our technique for disks in 2d and spheres in 3d.

Consequences of an adjusted slip layer thickness for the hardened properties of UHPC [PDF]
The pumpability of a concrete mixture cannot be described by one “single parameter”. The mixture composition, the pump equipment, the pumping pressure,… these parameters all affect the pumpability of a mixture and the ability to form a lubrication layer.

The absent presence of disability in British higher education
Abstract Rates of disability disclosure are steadily increasing in British higher education (HE), with 18% of the student population having a known disability in 2023/24. It might be assumed that progress is being made with increased representation, rights and support for disabled students.
