Fiducial-Aided Robust Positioning of Optical Freeform Surfaces

open access: yesMicromachines, 2018
Form characterization of a machined optical freeform surface demands accurate alignment of the sampled measured data points on the machined surface, and they are compared with the designed geometry of the surface through positioning.

Determination of micro-scale plastic strain caused by orthogonal cutting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
An electron beam lithography technique has been used to produce microgrids in order to measure local plastic strains, induced during an orthogonal cutting process, at the microscopic scale in the shear zone and under the machined surface. Microgrids with

Formation of Stable Amorphous Calcium Phosphate and Collagen Assemblies by a Versatile Spray‐Drying Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) microparticles with long‐term and thermal stability are prepared with or without collagen using a scalable one‐pot spray‐drying process. Under simulated physiological conditions, they crystallize into biomimetic bone mineral and, when combined with collagen, form extrudable, fibrillar bone‐like 3D constructs.

Machining of Micro-parts by Ultra-precision Milling Machine.

open access: yesJournal of the Japan Society for Precision Engineering, 1996
The requirement of producing metallic micro-parts for micro-machine and/or micro-mechanism will be increased. The study deals with manufacturing of tiny parts in mm-size by use of micro-machining technique of an ultra-precision milling machine. The ultra-precision milling machine, consisting of Z-motion table, positional spindle on it as C-rotational ...

Liquid Phase Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Window into the Early Stages of Complex Material Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy enables direct observation of nucleation and growth processes in solution. This review is dedicated to the remembrance of Helmut Cölfen and highlights recent studies on complex materials—oxides, biominerals, organic–inorganic crystals—which were central to his research activity. It summarizes key milestones,
