Efimov Resonances in Ultracold Quantum Gases [PDF]

open access: yesFew-Body Systems, 2011
Ultracold atomic gases have developed into prime systems for experimental studies of Efimov three-body physics and related few-body phenomena, which occur in the universal regime of resonant interactions. In the last few years, many important breakthroughs have been achieved, confirming basic predictions of universal few-body theory and deepening our ...

Tracking Evaporative Cooling of a Mesoscopic Atomic Quantum Gas in Real Time

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2021
The fluctuations in thermodynamic and transport properties in many-body systems gain importance as the number of constituent particles is reduced. Ultracold atomic gases provide a clean setting for the study of mesoscopic systems; however, the detection ...

Contact interaction in an unitary ultracold Fermi gas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
An ultracold Fermi atomic gas at unitarity presents universal properties that in the diluted limit can be well described by a contact interaction. By employing a guide function with correct boundary conditions and making simple modifications to the ...

Scattering in Mixed Dimensions with Ultracold Gases [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2010
We experimentally investigate the mix-dimensional scattering occurring when the collisional partners live in different dimensions. We employ a binary mixture of ultracold atoms and exploit a species-selective 1D optical lattice to confine only one atomic species in 2D.

Bose–Einstein condensation of 162Dy and 160Dy

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2015
We report Bose–Einstein condensation of two isotopes of the highly magnetic element dysprosium: ^162 Dy and $^{160}$ Dy. For ^162 Dy, condensates with 10 ^5 atoms form below T = 50 nK. We find the evaporation efficiency for the isotope ^160 Dy to be poor;

Itinerant ferromagnetism in ultracold Fermi gases [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 2011
Itinerant ferromagnetism in cold Fermi gases with repulsive interactions is studied applying the Jastrow-Slater approximation generalized to finite polarization and temperature. For two components at zero temperature a second order transition is found at $ak_F\simeq0.90$ compatible with QMC.

Ultracold chemistry and its reaction kinetics

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2015
We study the reaction kinetics of chemical processes occurring in the ultracold regime and systematically investigate their dynamics. Quantum entanglement is found to play a key role in driving an ultracold reaction towards a dynamical equilibrium.

Perspectives of Ultra Cold Atoms Trapped in Magnetic Micro Potentials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Recent work on magnetic micro traps for ultracold atoms is briefly reviewed. The basic principles of operation are described together with the loading methods and some of the realized trap geometries.
