Ultrafast laser processing of materials: a review

Advances in Optics and Photonics, 2015
We present an overview of the different processes that can result from focusing an ultrafast laser light in the femtosecond–nanosecond time regime on a host of materials, e.g., metals, semiconductors, and insulators. We summarize the physical processes and surface and bulk applications and highlight how femtosecond lasers can be used to process various

Ultrafast laser processing and metrology

CLEO: 2014, 2014
Precisely controlled blind via-holes were formed in multilayer substrates by an ultrafast laser. A LIBS detector integrated into the laser processing machine realizes the full potential of the ultrafast laser.

Ultrafast Laser Processes for Photonics

Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) 2019, 2019
Space division multiplexing (SDM) has the potential to dramatically increase the information capacity of single optical fibres. I will review how ultrafast laser processing techniques can be used to fabricate interconnect components for SDM applications.

Ultrafast laser processing of diamond

SPIE Proceedings, 2014
Ultrashort pulsed lasers are used to fabricate 3D structures in single crystal CVD diamond. The interaction of the laser with diamond lattice leads to a permanent structural modification, which is highly localized at the focus. Severe spherical aberrations compromise fabrication precision below the diamond surface.

Ultrafast lasers for nanomaterial growth and processing

2007 European Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and the International Quantum Electronics Conference, 2006
Laser ablation is a well-established solid-state film growth technique that typically involves applying a nanosecond laser beam to ablate a target material, followed by depositing the precursor vapor onto a substrate. A main technical obstacle for growing thin films with conventional nanosecond laser ablation is the formation of micron-sized ...
