Ultrafast time-resolved X-ray diffraction
International Quantum Electronics Conference, 2005., 2005Femtosecond laser-generated plasmas emit ultrashort X-ray pulses in the multi-keV range, which allow the extension of X-ray spectroscopy into the ultrafast time-domain. We report here on the generation of such short X-ray pulses and their application for time-resolved diffraction as a means to directly study ultrafast structural dynamics in laser ...

Ultrafast X-ray Diffraction of Transient Molecular Structures in Solution
Science, 2005We report direct structural evidence of the bridged radical (CH 2 ICH 2 ·) in a polar solution, obtained using time-resolved liquid-phase x-ray diffraction. This transient intermediate has long been hypothesized to explain stereo-chemical control in many association and/or dissociation ...

Ultrafast X-ray diffraction and X-ray absorption spectroscopy
Conference Digest. 2000 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe (Cat. No.00TH8505), 2000Summary form only given. Recently developed ultrafast laser-driven X-ray sources enable the observation of atomic motions in crystals and in solutions on the timescale of chemical bond formation and breakage. Using such a laboratory-based X-ray source the propagation of coherent phonon wave packets through GaAs(111) crystals after photo excitation has ...

Ultrafast X-ray Diffraction of Photodissociation of Iodoform in Solution
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2007We studied structural dynamics in the photodissociation of iodoform (CHI3) dissolved in methanol by time‐resolved x‐ray diffraction. A femtosecond laser pulse induces the bond‐breaking of an iodine atom from iodoform and an x‐ray pulse generated from a synchrotron gives time‐dependent diffraction signal which contains the structural information of ...

Monitoring Ultrafast Photoisomerization of Azobenzene by Time-Resolved X-Ray Diffraction
Frontiers in Optics / Laser Science, 2020Time-resolved X-Ray diffraction signals are simulated to monitor the ultrafast photoisomerization of azobenzene, a textbook photophysical process. Different signal contributions, with a special focus on scattering from coherences emerging at the conical intersection, are discussed.

Ultrafast Coherent Diffractive X-ray Imaging
Frontiers in Optics 2007/Laser Science XXIII/Organic Materials and Devices for Displays and Energy Conversion, 2007Single ultrafast pulse high-resolution coherent x-ray images and holograms have been recorded at the FLASH free-electron laser. These experiments point the way to near-atomic resolution imaging at future x-ray laser sources.

Structure and Ultrafast X-ray Diffraction of the Hydrated Metaphosphate
The Journal of Physical Chemistry AWe study the pathway of metaphosphate hydration when a metaphosphate anion is dissolved in liquid water with an explicit water model. For this purpose, we propose a sequential Monte Carlo algorithm incorporated with the ab initio quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) method, which can reduce the amount of ab initio QM/MM sampling while ...

Ultrafast X-ray and Electron Diffraction: Theoretical Considerations
The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 1997Time-dependent ultrafast diffraction measurements can be directly inverted to obtain the dynamics of atomic motions, in contrast to ultrafast spectra which require detailed knowledge of the sample (e.g., potential energy surfaces) for their inversion.

Ultrafast Diffractive X-Ray Optics
2003A class of x-ray optical elements is proposed that use effects of dynamical x-ray diffraction under conditions of rapidly changing structure factors to manipulate x-rays.
