Current Protocols in Molecular Biology, 1998
AbstractThe first section of this unit describes dialysis of large‐ and small‐volume samples using cellulose membranes with pore sizes designed to exclude molecules above a selected molecular weight. A support protocol describes preparation of membranes for dialysis.

Ultrafiltration in heart failure
American Heart Journal, 2011Fluid overload is a key pathophysiologic mechanism underlying both the acute decompensation episodes of heart failure and the progression of the syndrome. Moreover, it represents the most important factor responsible for the high readmission rates observed in these patients and is often associated with renal function worsening, which by itself ...

Pharmacological Alteration of Ultrafiltration
1991Several pharmacological agents have shown a potential for enhancing ultrafiltration in experimental settings during peritoneal dialysis exchanges. Knowledge of ultrafiltration kinetics has improved our understanding of how and at what site these agents are effective in enhancing ultrafiltration.

Isothermic hemodialysis and ultrafiltration
American Journal of Kidney Diseases, 2000The increase in patient temperature during hemodialysis is explained by hemodynamic compensation during ultrafiltration and hypovolemia that leads to peripheral vasoconstriction and reduced heat losses. We analyzed 51 stable high-efficiency hemodialysis treatments in 27 patients during isothermic dialysis in which body temperature was maintained at a ...

Simple modified ultrafiltration
Perfusion, 2000After reviewing all available methods of modified ultrafiltration (MUF), an attempt was made to develop a more simplified approach to this beneficial method of post-bypass fluid removal by withdrawing blood from the right atrium and reinfusing into the aortic cannula (venoarterial). The simplicity of operation, ease of setup and analysis of hemoglobin,

Abstract Ultrafiltration is frequently used in the biotechnology industry for protein purification. The main applications of ultrafiltration are for protein concentration and buffer exchange. This paper focuses on ultrafiltration for purification of parvovirus. The feasibility of using ultrafiltration to remove contaminating host cell proteins from the

A technique of estimating the mean hydrostatic coil pressure of the blood path (MCP) by abruptly stopping blood flow and recording the maximum outlet pressure was evaluated. It was found that this technique underestimates MCP by differing amounts depending on blood flow rate and hematocrit.

Studies on Ultrafiltrable Calcium
Archives of Internal Medicine, 1960Pribam in 1871 (cited by Loeb)35first suggested that calcium exists in blood in more than one form. However, Rona and Takahashi51,52in 1911, by using compensatory dialysis, showed for the first time the existence of blood calcium in dialyzable and nondialyzable forms and suggested that the latter was bound to protein.

Ultrafiltration of Surfactant Solutions
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2002The ultrafiltration of colloid solutions containing hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), and alkylpolyglucoside (APG) through hydrophilic membranes with a 10,000 mol wt cut-off from regenerated cellulose was studied. The effects of experimental conditions on the permeate flux and secondary resistance were determined.
