Far-Infrared Line Deficits in Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies

open access: yesFar-Infrared Line Deficits in Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies
SPICA Science Conference from Exoplanets to Distant Galaxies: SPICA's New Window on the Cool Universe (June 18-21, 2013. Ito Hall, the University of Tokyo), Bunkyou-ku, Tokyo, Japan We study the origin of the [O I] 63, [N II] 122, [O I] 145, and [C II] 158 line deficits in z less than 0.3 Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies, using data from Herschel.

Extinction law in ultraluminous infrared galaxies at z∼ 1 [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2011
We analyse the multiwavelength photometric and spectroscopic data of 12 ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs) at z∼1 and compare them with models of stars and dust in order to study the extinction law and star formation in young infrared (IR) galaxies.

Hot Dust in Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies

Astrophysics, 2017
Ultraluminous infrared galaxies with total luminosities an order of magnitude greater than that of our galaxy over wavelengths of λλ = 10-800 μm are characterized by a high mass concentration of dust. Because of this, the optical thickness of the interstellar gas is extremely high, especially in the central regions of the galaxies, ranging from 1 at ...

Ejection from Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies

2000
Active galaxies, particularly Seyferts, have been shown to eject material in various forms including quasars with high intrinsic redshifts. A class of active galaxy which has so far not been analyzed from this standpoint is the so called Ultra Luminous Infrared Galaxies (ULRIG’s).

Near-Infrared Spectroscopy of Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies

1994
We report K band spectra of fourteen ultraluminous (LIR ≥ 1012L⊙) galaxies from the IRAS Extended Bright Galaxy Sample (EBGS) and ten less luminous EBGS galaxies. For the lower luminosity systems, good correlations are found between the H2 v=1-0S(1) and far-infrared (FIR) fluxes, and Brγ and FIR fluxes.
