Heat and Tectonics of the Canadian Cordillera From the Seismically Constrained Inversion of Gravity Data

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 45, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract An updated approach to seismically constrained modeling of gravity data reveals two broad, NW‐trending low‐density zones in the mantle lithosphere beneath the Canadian Cordillera. The low‐density zones coincide with a shallow lithosphere‐asthenosphere boundary (LAB), a shallow Curie‐point depth, and the location of Quaternary volcanoes.

Interplay Between Mechanical and Petrochemical Models on the Fluid Extraction From Subduction Zones

open access: yesJournal of Metamorphic Geology, Volume 44, Issue 2, Page 85-111, February 2026.
ABSTRACT The breakdown of hydrous minerals during subduction results in a densification of the rocks, producing volume changes that can trigger fluid pressure fluctuations and hydrofracturing. These volume changes are controlled by the Clapeyron slope of the reaction and are quantified here using a macroscopic framework that integrates a zero ...

Petrochemistry of Ultramafic Rock in Baula - Pomalaa Ophiolite Complex, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia

open access: yesJGEET: Journal of Geoscience, Engineering, Environment and Technology
Baula and Pomalaa Ophiolitic Complexes are part of East Sulawesi Ophiolite (ESO). The ultramafic rocks in the Baula and Pomalaa Ophiolite Complex mainly is peridotite and consist of harzburgite, lherzolite and olivine websterite, mostly serpentinized ...

The variation in composition of ultramafic rocks and the effect on their suitability for carbon dioxide sequestration by mineralization following acid leaching

open access: yes, 2014
Carbon dioxide capture and storage by mineralization has been proposed as a possible technology to contribute to the reduction of global CO 2 levels. A main candidate as a feed material, to supply Mg cations for combination with CO 2 to form carbonate ...

Peridotite weathering is the missing ingredient of Earth’s continental crust composition

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
The concentration of Ni and Cr of the continental crust cannot be explained by formation models involving differentiated magmatic rocks. Here, the authors show that hydrothermal alteration and chemical weathering of ultramafic rock compensates for the ...

Mineralised ultramafic rocks in South Greenland

open access: yesRapport Grønlands Geologiske Undersøgelse, 1971
In 1960 several mineralised ultramafic boulders with a remarkable content of Pt were found by M. Loretan in the neighbourhood of Sarqa fjord in the Nanortalik district, South Greenland. This stimulated interest in a closer examination of the mafic and ultramafic rocks of South Greenland and in 1962 and 1963 J. P.

Percolation of Dioritic Melts Through Ultramafic Cumulate Mushes Forms High‐Mg Intermediate Igneous Rocks

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Percolation of dioritic melts through ultramafic cumulate mushes and their reaction and hybridization have been documented in some arcs, but the impact of the processes on the compositions of arc igneous rocks is not yet fully understood.

Assessing the Carbon Sequestration Potential of Ultramafic Rocks in the Kolaka Ophiolite Complex, Southheastern Sulawesi: A Petrographic, Geochemical, and Mineralogical Study

open access: yesJGEET: Journal of Geoscience, Engineering, Environment and Technology
Climate change has prompted significant global interest in carbon sequestration technologies, particularly using geological formations. This study investigates the potential of ultramafic rocks from the Kolaka Ophiolite Complex in Southeast Sulawesi for ...

Quantitative chemical analyses of rocks with X-ray fluorescence analyzer: (1) Major elements

open access: yesAntarctic Record, 1995
Analytical procedures for major elements in rocks (Si, Ti, Al, Fe, Mn, Mg, Ca, Na, K, P), using a newly installed X-ray fluorescence analyzer (RIGAKURIX3000) at the National Institute of Polar Research, are summarized.
