Non-contact ultrasonic guided wave inspections of rails

SPIE Proceedings, 2014
The University of California at San Diego (UCSD), under a Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Office of Research and Development (R&D) grant, is developing a system for high-speed and non-contact rail integrity evaluation. A prototype using an ultrasonic air-coupled guided wave signal generation and air-coupled signal detection in pair with a real ...

Ultrasonic magnetostrictive transducers for guided ultrasonic waves in thin wires

SPIE Proceedings, 2007
The magnetostrictive effect is used to generate ultrasonic waves for a variety of health monitoring applications. Given the ductile nature of many ferromagnetic materials and the common geometrical configuration of magnetic inductance coils, magnetostrictive generation of ultrasound is especially suitable for long cylindrical waveguides such as thin ...

The Electromagnetic Ultrasonic Guided Wave Testing

2016
As an important branch of the nondestructive testing field, ultrasonic testing is widely used in the steel, electric power, petroleum, transportation, and medical and other industries. In the process of ultrasonic testing, the ultrasonic transducer is the core component of excitation and reception of ultrasonic waves, mainly including the piezoelectric

Ultrasonic Guided Wave Testing of Finned Tubing

Volume 5: High-Pressure Technology; Rudy Scavuzzo Student Paper Competition and 23rd Annual Student Paper Competition; ASME NDE Division, 2015
In the past few decades, ultrasonic guided waves have been utilized more frequently Non-Destructive Testing (NDT); most notably, in the qualitative screening of buried piping. However, only a fraction of their potential applications in NDT have been fully realized.

Ultrasonic Guided Waves in Solid Media

2014
Ultrasonic guided waves in solid media have become a critically important subject in nondestructive testing and structural health monitoring, as new faster, more sensitive, and more economical ways of looking at materials and structures have become possible. This book will lead to fresh creative ideas for use in new inspection procedures.

Quantum Analogous Spin States of Ultrasonic Guided Waves

Ultrasonics
In quantum mechanics, spin is a physical property that dominates the topological behaviors. While manifesting the spin states they reveal complex interaction of physical parameters in a topological media. The guided waves' inherent spin states are made of real physical spin angular momentum from the superposition of elastic waves.

Bond strength measurement by ultrasonic guided waves

Ultrasonics, 1997
A quasi-static model is proposed for ultrasonic guided waves interaction with imperfect interfaces. Incomplete bonding and the effect of this condition on the velocity is comprehensively discussed. The theoretical model, serves as reference for extracting ultrasonic wave parameters from experimental data.

Guided Ultrasonic Waves: Emerging Methods (GUWEM)

Book of abstracts for the GUWEM Workshop held at Linslerhof, Germany, from 8 July to 11 July 2024. In Europe, we have a small but vibrant community of researchers working on the theory and practical use of elastic waveguides for material characterization, nondestructive testing, structural health monitoring and sensors. This workshop aims to provide a
