New methods of ultrasonic metal welding
1993 Proceedings IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium, 1993New methods of ultrasonic metal welding and characteristics of the welded specimens are studied. For welding of small specimens such as thin wire bonding, the bonding equipments designed using higher vibration frequency and complex vibration welding tips of 90, 120 and 190 kHz are significantly effective.

ULTRASONIC WELDING OF REFRACTORY METALS
1962Abstract : Preliminary conclusions regarding the weldability of 0.005-inch D-31 alloy foil are: (1) new D-31 possesses good ultrasonic weldability. Crackfree welds with good tensile-shear consistency can be made; (2) good ultrasonic welds can be attained over a consderable power range: 850 watts with the 0.25- inch spherical sonotrode-tip radius to ...

Ultrasonic welding of ceramic/metal
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 1994Abstract This paper gives a description of an experimental study of the ultrasonic welding of ceramics and metals. Ultrasonic welding has made possible the welding of various ceramics, such as Al2O3, SiO2, ZrO2, SiC, and Si3N4, to aluminium and copper at the room temperature, both quickly and easily when compared to other welding methods. For example,

The ultrasonic welding of metals is now a well established technique. But the physical principles are still not clearly understood. In this paper, the author suggests that two physical mechanisms operate and that their effects can be distinguished in ultrasonically produced welds.

Investigation of monitoring methods for ultrasonic metal welding
Sensors and Smart Structures Technologies for Civil, Mechanical, and Aerospace Systems 2021, 2021Ultrasonic metal welding (UMW) is becoming a more broadly used technology for joining ductile materials, especially in the electric vehicle sector. The process, however, lacks monitoring capabilities that would improve confidence in the repeatability of welded joints. Often only destructive testing is used for quality evaluation.

Tensile Strength of Cu Sheets Welded by Ultrasonic Metal Welding
Advanced Materials Research, 2013This paper gives a description of an experimental study on the ultrasonic welding of metals. In ultrasonic metal welding, high frequency vibrations are combined with pressure to join two materials together quickly and securely, without generating large amount of heat. Horn, a key part of ultrasonic welding machine, should be designed very accurately to

Ultrasonic Welding of Refractory Metals
1961Abstract : The effect of input power, clamping force, and duration of welding interval on the tensile-shear strength of ultrasonic welds in 0.005-in. Mo-0.5% Ti alloy sheet were studied and the results are tabulated. Exploratory tensile- shear measurements were made in 0.010-in.

Ultrasonically Welded Aluminium Foams/Sheet Metal – Joints
Advanced Engineering Materials, 2006AbstractThe ultrasonic welding technology enables to produce high‐strength joints between sheet metal and aluminium foam sandwich (AFS) without melting of the metal or any damage of the foam structure. In the investigations the used welding processes and different factors influencing the weldability were varied. The achievable mechanical properties for

Ultrasonic Imaging of Welded Metals Using Simplified Ultrasonic Computerized Tomography
Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2002In this paper, as a new measurement method to estimate the infinitesimal change of material condition, the simplified ultrasonic computerized tomography (CT) system, which uses the information of three directions, i.e., the 90°, +45° and -45° directions about the inspection plane, is proposed.
