Design and implementation of spherical ultrasonic motor

IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 2009
We present a mechanical design and implementation of spherical ultrasonic motor (SUSM) that is an actuator with multiple rotational degrees of freedom (multi-DOF). The motor is constructed of 3 annular stators and a spherical rotor and is much smaller and simpler than conventional multi-DOF mechanisms such as gimbals using servomotors.

Novel method for driving the ultrasonic motor

IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 2002
This paper reports a novel driving method for an annular plate-type ultrasonic motor. Instead of the direct current/alternating current (DC/AC) converter type driver using conventional electromagnetic transformer, a compact disc-type piezoelectric transformer is used to obtain high voltage output for driving the ultrasonic motor.

An Introduction to Ultrasonic Motors

1993
Abstract The ultrasonic motor, invented in 1980, utilizes the piezoelectric effect in the ultrasonic frequency range to provide the motive force. (In conventional electric motors the motive force is electromagnetic). The result is a motor with unusually good low-speed high-torque and power-to-weight characteristics.

Development and applications of linear ultrasonic motors

2016 13th International Conference on Ubiquitous Robots and Ambient Intelligence (URAI), 2016
This paper proposed structural design methods for the development of high-efficiency linear ultrasonic motors (LUMs) that can be applied in robotic fields. A continuous variable cross-section Langevin vibrator was adopted for higher vibration efficiency of the stator.

Prototyping of a Rotary/Linear Ultrasonic Motor

2005 IEEE Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation, 2006
The object of this research is to design and prototype a linear/rotary ultrasonic motor based upon multi-mode resonance behaviors for a piezoelectrically excited driver structure system. The whole ultrasonic motor system includes a pair of piezoactuator-equipped driver rods, a linear/rotary driven shaft, and a set of high-voltage power stages for ...

New type of piezoelectric ultrasonic motor

IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 1989
The authors describe a newly developed motor concept which allows a bidirectional piezoelectric ultrasonic motor to be operated with only a single voltage feed and thus only one power amplifier. The motor concept is based on the superposition of a longitudinal and a flexural oscillation of a rod-shaped resonator. In a way analogous to the generation of

A vibrators alternation stepping ultrasonic motor

Ultrasonics, 2006
A new concept of a vibrators alternation stepping ultrasonic motor, based on longitudinal vibrations of rectangular Langevin resonators, is presented. The new motor fed by a single-phase resource without feedback is capable of bi-directions step displacements without accumulative displacement error.

Other Ultrasonic Motors

2011
There are many types of motors based on the piezoelectric effect (also called piezoelectric motors). Besides those discussed in previous chapters, there are many other new types being studied, including a non-contact type ultrasonic motor, a piezoelectric motor using clutch, a linear surface acoustic wave motor, a vacuum type ultrasonic motor, an ...

A 40V monolithic ultrasonic motor driver

2017 IEEE 12th International Conference on ASIC (ASICON), 2017
Miniaturizing the driving circuit of ultrasonic motor (USM) is very important to apply the miniaturized USM. Based on a 0.35μm BCD process, this paper designs a novel 40V monolithic USM driver chip, which includes a boost converter sub-circuit and an H bridge sub-circuit. The peak current mode boost converter provides power supply for the H bridge. And

Step Ultrasonic Motors

2011
Great research progress for step USMs has been achieved since their invention more than 10 years ago. In 1991, Kusakabe developed a standing wave and self-correction USM[1], which made the USM succeed in step motion without feedback. Later, Miyazawa put forward a step USM[2]–[3] using a shifting standing wave mode based on Iijima’s standing wave USM in
