Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Technique for Inspection and Evaluation of Timber
Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2000The ultrasonic pulse velocity technique was used to assess the structural integrity of timber elements in monumental buildings. Six species of timber of different strength values were selected to establish the pulse velocity ranges. The effect of moisture content, specific gravity, internal voids, and external voids on the pulse velocity was measured ...

Modifications to Standard Pulse Techniques for Ultrasonic Velocity Measurements
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1959A description is given of modifications to the “sing-around” and coincidence techniques for velocity measurement. In the case of the “sing-around” method a gate is incorporated which effectively lengthens the ultrasonic path by allowing retriggering on multiply reflected pulses. This allows the use of short solid specimens having low attenuation.

Measurement of the Velocity and Attenuation of Ultrasonic Pulses in the Presence of Noise
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1969The well developed techniques of coherent detection and signal averaging may be used to extend the range and accuracy of measurements of ultrasonic velocity and attenuation. Significant improvements in signal-to-noise ratio are obtained by averaging a coherently detected echo train in a signal averager such as a multichannel analyzer or boxcar ...
