Advanced Materials Research, 2011Three rocks - biotite granite, dolerite, and marble - were studied for the use of ultrasonic pulse velocity in predicting their uniaxial compressive strength. The rocks differed in mineralogy, texture, and strength. The mineralogy and texture influence to varying degree the strength and the pulse velocity.

Inspection of Concrete Using Air-Coupled Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity
ACI Materials Journal, 2010This paper will discuss how the ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) method has been used for decades to characterize concrete structures. In this method, ultrasonic transducers are attached to the concrete surface using a coupling agent. The coupling process is both time and labor intensive and, in some cases, may limit the ability to collect data.
