Image matching for pulse echo measurement of ultrasonic velocity

Image and Vision Computing, 1983
Abstract Diagnostic ultrasound is a pulse echo imaging system similar to radar, sonar or exploration seismology. It has its most widespread use in the examination of pregnancy, but also finds routine use in the examination of the organs of the upper abdomen and its use is increasing in other areas. Using current techniques the information obtained is

Ultrasonic pulse velocity as a rock stress sensor

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1974
A method of measuring with nanosecond precision the times of flight of ultrasonic pulses over distances of a few metres in rock in situ has been developed by using a multiple sampling technique, with pulses repeated at intervals of 20 msec and on-line averaging of many individual readings. In an ideal situation the measurements are sensitive to changes

Dispersion of Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity in Cylindrical Rods

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1955
The velocities of pulsed longitudinal and shear waves in cylindrical rods of aluminum alloy, brass, copper, and steel were measured by using both the pulse echo and pulse transmission methods. It is found that for pulsed longitudinal waves the measured velocity not only depends upon the elastic constants of the medium but also on the ratio between the ...

Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Tests on Compacted Soil

Characterization, Modeling, and Performance of Geomaterials, 2009
In this paper, results of a series of ultrasonic pulse velocity tests on compacted soil were presented and discussed. Ultrasonic pulse velocity tests provide compression and shear wave velocity information that can be used in calculating dynamic elastic moduli such as Young’s modulus and shear modulus.

The Dispersion of Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity in Cylindrical Rods

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1954
Velocity dispersion of compressional stress waves in cylindrical rods of 61S-T6 aluminum alloy has been investigated experimentally. Electronically generated pulses of the desired shape and carrier frequency were used to drive the barium titanate and quartz transducers. Both the pulse echo and pulse transmission methods were employed. It was found that

Measurement of velocity of propagation from ultrasonic pulse-echo data

Ultrasound in Medicine & Biology, 1982
A method is proposed for determining velocity of propagation of ultrasound in tissue by processing the pulse-echo data obtained from a compound scan. Individual sectors from different transducer positions are reconstructed and a suitable area common to the two sectors is selected.

Measurement of ultrasonic velocity with improved accuracy in pulse echo setup

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2007
In the present work a personal computer based circuit adopted in pulseecho setup has been developed for the measurement of time-of-flight between the two successive echoes using a differential time measurement with a 16bit counter and an external clock frequency of 32MHz.

Implementation of a novel pulsed ultrasonic Doppler velocity profiler

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
The objective of the work is to apply advanced digital signal processing (DSP) and pulsed Doppler echography techniques to analyze velocity profile of the measured fluid in a closed full-pipe. In order to reliably measure velocity profile where non-intrusive ultrasonic Doppler velocity profilers (UDVPs) cannot properly transmit and receive ultrasonic ...

Acoustic emission and ultrasonic pulse velocity of concrete

International Journal of Cement Composites and Lightweight Concrete, 1982
Abstract Both acoustic emission and ultrasonic pulse velocity measurements were used to try to monitor the structural integrity of concrete. Specimens in the form of 150 mm cubes were loaded monotonically to failure, and acoustic emission and ultrasonic pulse velocity were measured simultaneously.

Studies in ultrasonic pulse velocity of concrete containing GGBFS

Construction and Building Materials, 2013
Abstract This paper presents the results of experimental investigations into the time-dependent ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) of concrete containing GGBFS. The UPV was determined at the age of 3, 7, 28, 56, 90, 150 and 180 days for twelve concrete mixes using the prism specimens of plain and GGBFS concrete.
