Evaluation of Axial Preload in Different-Frequency Smart Bolts by Laser Ultrasound

open access: yesSensors, 2022
We report here on a laser ultrasonic system to indirectly evaluate the preload force of different-frequency piezoelectric bolts. This newly developed system enables us to achieve the goal of non-contact excitation and synchronously collects the laser ...

Single-mode fiber ultrasonic sensor [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1982
An acoustooptic ultrasonic sensor using a single-mode fiber is discussed. The sensor is based on acoustically induced modal birefringence which alters the polarization state of the optical beam.

The anti‐CRISPR protein AcrIE8.1 inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system by directly binding to the Cascade subunit Cas11

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

Deciphering acoustic emission signals in drought stressed branches: the missing link between source and sensor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
When drought occurs in plants, acoustic emission (AE) signals can be detected, but the actual causes of these signals are still unknown. By analyzing the waveforms of the measured signals, it should, however, be possible to trace the characteristics of ...

Outlier Detection and Smoothing Process for Water Level Data Measured by Ultrasonic Sensor in Stream Flows

open access: yesWater, 2019
Water level data sets acquired by ultrasonic sensors in stream-scale channels exhibit relatively large numbers of outliers that are off the measurement range between the ultrasonic sensor and water surface, as well as data dispersion of approximately 2 ...

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.
