Modelling of the Ultrasonic Shot Peening Process

open access: yesMaterials Science Forum, 2005
The aim of this work is to reach a better understanding of the ultrasonic shot-peening process and, in particular, the evolution of the shot speed distribution. A simple 1D modelling of the interaction between the shots and the sonotrode is carried out.

Surface nanocrystallization of iron induced by ultrasonic shot peening [PDF]

open access: yesNanostructured Materials, 1999
A nanocrystalline surface layer was fabricated on a pure Fe plate by using an ultrasonic shot peening (USSP) technique. The USSP induced surface nanocrystallization products were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM).

Surface Nanocrystallization of Pure Ni Induced by Ultrasonic Shot Peening

Science of Advanced Materials, 2014
Peening is mainly used as a method of surface treatment for microstructural modification in order to improve surface mechanical properties. The ultrasonic shot peening (USP) technique can cause severe plastic deformation with its high strain rate on the surface of metallic parts.

Numerical and experimental studies on needle impact characteristics in ultrasonic shot peening

Ultrasonics, 2022
Ultrasonic shot peening(USP) is an advanced surface treatment technology for obtaining excellent surface properties or manufacturing a three-dimensional curved surface of the metal sheets. The impact of the medium driven by ultrasonic vibration is significant to parameter optimization and excellent performance of the USP technology. However, the impact

Ultrasonic characterization of shot-peened metal surfaces

SPIE Proceedings, 2001
Shot peening is a well-known method for extending the fatigue life of metal components by introducing near-surface compressive residual stresses. The capability to nondestructively evaluate near-surface residual stress would greatly aid the assurance of proper fatigue life in shot-peened components.
