Design and Finite Element Simulation of a Novel 3D-CMUT Device for Simultaneous Sensing of In-Plane and Out-of-Plane Displacements of Ultrasonic Guided Waves

open access: yesSensors, 2023
In this study, we introduce a physical model of a three-dimensional (3D) guided wave sensor called 3D-CMUT, which is based on capacitive micro-machined ultrasonic transducers (CMUTs).

Ultra-broad low-frequency forbidden bands in 1D solid–fluid acoustic superlattices with multiple solid constituents

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2023
In this paper, a theoretical model of underwater acoustic wave propagation, based on the transfer matrix method, is employed to calculate acoustic wave transmission through a 1D solid–fluid superlattice (SFSL) with multiple solid constituents.

Research progress in ultrasonic testing for friction stir welding of aluminum alloy

open access: yesCailiao gongcheng, 2022
The defects in friction stir welding (FSW) of aluminum alloy, e.g., tunnel defect, lack of penetration (LOP) and kissing bond, are with complex shape and narrow gap by inappropriate welding parameters.

Ultrasonic fatigue testing of concrete

open access: yesUltrasonics, 2021
Cyclic compression fatigue properties of concrete are studied with the ultrasonic fatigue testing method with cycling frequency 19 kHz and are compared to servo-hydraulic tests performed at 60 Hz. Ultrasonic testing was found applicable for rapid generation of very high cycle fatigue (VHCF) data of concrete.

The Influence of the Hardness of the Tested Material and the Surface Preparation Method on the Results of Ultrasonic Testing

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Non-destructive ultrasonic testing can be used to assess the properties and condition of real machine elements during their operation, with limited (one-sided) access to these elements.

ULTRASONIC METHOD FOR TESTING OF POWER TRANSFORMERS

open access: yesJournal of Energy : Energija, 2022
Ultrasonic method of detecting PD is based on the fact that the electrical energy of the PD transforms in a mechanical energy, an ultrasonic acoustic wave that spreads through the transformer to the tank wall. From time difference of wave detection on different sensors, a possible location of the source can be estimated.

Numerical simulation of phased array ultrasonic testing for fillet weld defects of type-B sleeve

open access: yesYou-qi chuyun, 2022
Type-B sleeve repair is one of the main permanent repair methods for long-distance oil and gas pipelines at present. However, fillet weld defects are often produced during the operation, which need to be detected and evaluated by phased array ultrasonic ...

Irradiation testing of ultrasonic transducers [PDF]

open access: yes2013 3rd International Conference on Advancements in Nuclear Instrumentation, Measurement Methods and their Applications (ANIMMA), 2013
Ultrasonic technologies offer the potential for high accuracy and resolution in-pile measurement of numerous parameters, including geometry changes, temperature, crack initiation and growth, gas pressure and composition, and microstructural changes. Many Department of Energy-Office of Nuclear Energy (DOE-NE) programs are exploring the use of ultrasonic
