The clinical applications of ultrasonics in radiation therapy

Physics in Medicine & Biology, 1972
The recent development of B-mode ultrasonic scanning has added a new dimension in obtaining anatomical information for radiation therapy treatment planning and evaluation. True representations of patient cross-sections can be determined which may define tumour and important organ positions.

Ultrasonic bone-therapy apparatus and method

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1998
A method of ultrasonic bone-therapy subjects a bone to an ultrasonic excitation pulse signal of finite duration, supplied to a transducer next to the bone, and involving a sinusoidal signal in the ultrasonic region to approximately 2 MHz peculiarly modulated by a sinusoidal signal with frequency between about 0 Hz and about 25 kHz; the excitation ...

Use of ultrasonics in single-visit endodontic therapy

Journal of Endodontics, 1987
Two cases are presented in which a single-visitendodontic procedure was performed using ultrasonics and sodium hypochlorite as an irrigant. We recommend that clinical studies be performed to demonstrate the significance of ultrasonics in single-visit endodontic therapy.

An evaluation of ultrasonic therapy for temporomandibular joint dysfunction

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1971
Abstract In a study of 100 patients, ultrasonic therapy alone was not effective in relieving symptoms of temporomandibular joint dysfunction and associated symptoms of muscle spasm. However, it did appear to be of some benefit in hastening and making more effective the relief of these symptoms when used as an adjunct to the accepted modalities of ...

The Question of Damage in Ultrasonic Therapy

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1954
Criteria are suggested for ensuring the proper use of ultrasound in physical therapy and in particular for avoiding damage to patients.

Computer simulations of ultrasonic heating for ocular therapy

Acta Ophthalmologica, 1992
Abstract Computer simulations are being performed to model the temperature patterns produced during ultrasonically induced hyperthermia of ocular tumours. The software package for these simulations incorporates operator interaction and uses tissue geometry obtained from B‐mode data.

Ultrasonic therapy applicator that measures dosage

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1984
An ultrasonic therapy applicator wherein therapeutic heating is provided by creating a diffuse ultrasonic field in a liquid, such as water, in a tank in which living tissue may be immersed. The diffuse acoustic energy is produced by frequency-modulating the driving ultrasonic frequency in a band employing "white noise" modulation.

Meniere's Disease: The Present Status of Ultrasonic Therapy

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1969
ULTRASONIC therapy for Meniere's disease has now been in use for 17 years. Considerable developments have taken place and much has been learned of its mode of action, its hazards, and its value. It is indicated when there is useful residual hearing; otherwise surgical labyrinthectomy is recommended. My personal experience covers the last ten years and

A New Approach to Ultrasonic Mist Therapy in Children

Journal of Asthma Research, 1968
Certain difficulties of respiration and/or disturbances of bronchial secretory processes may be lessened, or relieved, when patients are enabled to breathe an atmosphere which has been conditioned to fulfill their special requirements. In acute or chronic conditions, or post-operatively, the siniultaneous control of air temperature, humidity ...
