Digest Ultrasonic Welding I: Localized Heating and Fuse Bonding [PDF]
This paper reports a new insight on the principle of ultrasonic welding process. Physics of ultrasonic welding process is considered to be an inverse process of shear band formation. Both ultrasonic welding and shear band formation involve temperature rising due to localized plastic deformation.

Ultrasonic or supersonic waves have a frequency outside the range at which the human ear is capable of perceiving them as sound. The frequency of audible sound lies between sixteen and twenty thousand oscillations a second. Anything outside those figures is inaudible; ultrasound consists of frequencies above twenty thousand.
