The Power Flow Angle of Acoustic Waves in Thin Piezoelectric Plates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The curves of slowness and power flow angle (PFA) of quasi-antisymmetric (A0) and quasi-symmetric (S0) Lamb waves as well as quasi-shear-horizontal (SH0) acoustic waves in thin plates of lithium niobate and potassium niobate of X-,Y-, and Z-cuts for ...

Nanoparticle‐Coated X2CrNiMo17‐12‐2 Powder for Additive Manufacturing – Part I: Surface, Flowability, and Optical Properties of SiC, Si, and Si3N4 Coated Metal Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, silicon‐based nanoparticle coatings on X2CrNiMo17‐12‐2 metal powder are presented. The coating process scale, process parameters, nanoparticle size (65–200 nm) as well as the coating amount are discussed regarding powder properties. The surface roughness affects the flowability, while reflectance depends on the coating material and surface ...

Metal honeycomb to porous wireform substrate diffusion bond evaluation [PDF]

open access: yes
Two nondestructive techniques were used to evaluate diffusion bond quality between a metal foil honeycomb and porous wireform substrate. The two techniques, cryographics and acousto-ultrasonics, are complementary in revealing variations of bond integrity

An Examination of Aerosol Jet‐Printed Surface Roughness and its Impact on the Performance of High‐Frequency Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores aerosol jet‐printed (AJP) surface roughness, its effects on the performance of microwave electronics, and its process contributors. First, an electromagnetic model is vetted for AJP's unique roughness signature. Simulations are built which show process‐induced roughness is as significant as conductor resistivity in driving microwave

Statistical Distributions of Morphologically Classified Defects in Metal Additive Manufacturing with Implications for Fatigue Life Prediction

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Morphological features of three defect types in metal additive manufacturing (AM)—lack of fusion, keyhole, and gas‐entrapped pores—are statistically characterized using best‐fit distributions evaluated via coefficient‐of‐determination, Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, and quantile–quantile plots.

Risk factors for symptom recurrence after microwave ablation of adenomyosis: a preliminary retrospective study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Hyperthermia
Introduction Microwave ablation (MWA) effectively treats adenomyosis, yet symptom recurrence remains challenging. Thus, our study aims to explore the independent risk factors related to symptom recurrence after MWA of symptomatic adenomyosis.Material and

Effect of the Matching Circuit on the Electromechanical Characteristics of Sandwiched Piezoelectric Transducers

open access: yesSensors, 2017
The input electrical impedance behaves as a capacitive when a piezoelectric transducer is excited near its resonance frequency. In order to increase the energy transmission efficiency, a series or parallel inductor should be used to compensate the ...

Ultrasonics in Dentistry

open access: yesPhysics Procedia, 2015
AbstractUltrasonic instruments have been used in dentistry since the 1950's. Initially they were used to cut teeth but very quickly they became established as an ultrasonic scaler which was used to remove deposits from the hard tissues of the tooth. This enabled the soft tissues around the tooth to return to health.

Fluorinated Graphene‐Coated N95 Respirators for Enhanced Protection against Viral Accumulation and Transmission

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a one‐step spray coating approach to coat the fluorinated graphene (FG) nanosheet onto the N95 respirators. The spray‐coated superhydrophobic N95 respirators can effectively repel respiratory droplets off instantaneously and prevent SARS‐CoV‐2 virus accumulation on the surface.
