Breaking Bad News in Prenatal Ultrasonography

Journal SOGC, 2001
Abstract Improved ultrasound technology and increased availability have made ultrasound diagnosis of pregnancy loss, fetal abnormalities, and other pregnancy complications more common. The physician's understanding of how to give pregnancy-related bad news is increasingly important.

[Fibromatosis found during prenatal ultrasonography].

Journal de gynecologie, obstetrique et biologie de la reproduction, 1995
During an antenatal echography, we observed a here to unreported fetal tumour which was diagnosed after birth as aggressive fibromatosis. The infant was treated with chemotherapy and, at the age of 27 months, still had a sclerous mass on the trunk which cause major scoliosis. Fibromatosis is a locally malignant fibrous tumour.

Prenatal diagnosis of omphalocele and gastroschisis by ultrasonography

Prenatal Diagnosis, 1985
AbstractAs the use of ultrasonography has become a routine procedure in the care of pregnant women, fetal congenital malformations have been frequently diagnosed prenatally. During a 4‐year period abdominal wall defects (AWD) were diagnosed in 14 cases, five were gastroschises and nine were omphaloceles, seven females and seven males.

Prenatal cerebral Doppler ultrasonography and neonatal neurologic outcome.

Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine, 1989
The significance of fetal cerebral blood flow analysis in the prediction of neonatal neurologic outcome was investigated on 87 fetuses at risk for chronic hypoxia. Blood flow velocity waveforms were recorded from the fetal internal carotid artery immediately before cesarean section; newborns underwent neurologic follow-up until discharged from the ...

Prenatal diagnosis of a pulmonary cyst by ultrasonography

European Journal of Pediatrics, 1985
We report a patient in whom a prenatal diagnosis of an intrapulmonary cyst was made by ultrasonography. To our knowledge, no such case has been reported before and prenatal diagnosis permitted prompt management of an asymptomatic neonate.

Prenatal Diagnosis of Fetal Abdominal Masses by Ultrasonography

American Journal of Perinatology, 1986
A case of prenatally diagnosed ovarian cyst is presented to illustrate the value of sonograms during pregnancy. This tool warns the perinatal health team of abnormalities which otherwise might go undiagnosed until severe complications have occurred.

Early prenatal diagnosis of gastroschisis withtransvaginal ultrasonography

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1990
A case is reported in which gastroschisis was definitively diagnosed at 12 3/7 weeks' gestation by transvaginal ultrasonography. This is the earliest diagnosis reported in the literature and would seem to support the theory that gastroschisis and omphalocele are embryologically distinct entities.

Congenital diaphragmatic hernia: Can prenatal ultrasonography predict outcome?

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1996
We wanted to establish whether prenatal ultrasonography predicts postnatal outcome in congenital diaphragmatic hernia. We designed a retrospective multicenter cohort study of 135 patients with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (122 left, 10 right, 2 bilateral, 1 anterior). In isolated left congenital diaphragmatic hernia five potential prenatal prognostic

Prenatal Diagnosis of Fetal Malformations by Ultrasonography

1986
Ultrasonography is today able to detect many details of the fetal anatomy, so that prenatal diagnosis of malformations becomes possible. However, as 60% of all detected fetal abnormalities develop spontaneously, a screening program is recommended. At least two ultrasonic examinations should be performed.
