Ciliary muscle thickness and intraocular pressure before and after latanoprost

open access: yesOptometry and Vision Science, Volume 103, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Purpose To test the hypothesis that a larger, latanoprost‐induced intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction is associated with a thicker ciliary muscle. Methods Participants (N = 31) were healthy with the following details: mean ± SD age 24.8 ± 3.3 years.

RORA Targeting PRNP Modulates Age‐Related Cataract via Activation Oxidative Injury‐Induced Cellular Senescence and Apoptosis of Lens Epithelial Cells

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 6, June 2026.
The molecular mechanisms of RORA targeting PRNP activate oxidative injury‐induced cellular senescence and apoptosis of lens epithelial cells. Current research confirms that the transcription factor RORA targets PRNP, exacerbating cellular senescence and apoptosis of LECs (Figure 7).

High-frequency ultrasound biomicroscopy of silicone posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens for hyperopia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Purpose: To study the intraocular position and anatomic relationships of the PRL-III phakic refractive lens (PRL), a posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens (PCP IOL), in cases of hyperopia using ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM).

Combined photoacoustic and ultrasound biomicroscopy

open access: yesOptics Express, 2009
We report on the development of an imaging system capable of combined ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging based on a fast-scanning single-element 25-MHz ultrasound transducer and a unique light-delivery system. The system is capable of 20 ultrasound frames per second and slower photoacoustic frame rates limited by laser pulse-repetition rates.

Comparative Study of Accommodative Function and Binocular Vision in Patients With Primary Angle‐Closure Disease

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, Volume 42, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT The age‐related decline in accommodative function after the age of 50 years corresponds with an increasing incidence of primary angle‐closure disease (PACD); however, the interaction between this decline and PACD remains unexamined. Additionally, refractive error‐accommodation associations in elderly individuals, which are critical for PACD ...

Progress toward "in vivo virtual histology" of ovarian follicles and corpora lutea by ultrasound biomicroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
High-frequency ultrasound imaging (40 MHz; ultrasound biomicroscopy) provides reliable ex vivo visualization of cellular components both in follicles and corpora lutea. In the near future and after logical technical evolution it may be useful for in vivo

Congenital aniridia: European COST action ANIRIDIA‐NET guidelines for diagnosis, management and care

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, Volume 104, Issue 3, Page 267-279, May 2026.
Abstract Congenital aniridia is a rare ocular disorder affecting the majority of eye structures and can be associated with systemic manifestations. The main visible phenotypic characteristic is the partial or complete absence of the iris; however, foveal hypoplasia is a more frequent and reliable clinical sign. Other ocular comorbidities are associated
