Aerogel backed ultrasound transducer

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2003
An ultrasound transducer having an acoustic backing layer made of an aerogel material is disclosed. The ultrasound transducer comprises an acoustic element for transmitting and receiving ultrasound waves. An aerogel acoustic backing layer is bonded to the back side of the acoustic element.

New piezoelectric transducers for therapeutic ultrasound

Ultrasound in Medicine & Biology, 2000
Therapeutic ultrasound (US) has been of increasing interest during the past few years. However, the development of this technique depends on the availability of high-performance transducers. These transducers have to be optimised for focusing and steering high-power ultrasonic energy within the target volume.

Piezoelectrically actuated flextensional micromachined ultrasound transducers

Ultrasonics, 2002
This paper presents novel micromachined two-dimensional array piezoelectrically actuated flextensional transducers that can be used to generate sound in air or water. Micromachining techniques to fabricate these devices are also presented. Individual unimorph array elements consist of a thin piezoelectric annular disk and a thin, fully clamped ...

High frequency piezoelectric MEMS ultrasound transducers

IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 2007
High-frequency ultrasound array transducers using piezoelectric thin films on larger structures are being developed for high-resolution imaging systems. The increase in resolution is achieved by a simultaneous increase in operating frequency (30 MHz to about 1 GHz) and close coupling of the electronic circuitry.

Novel Airborne Ultrasound Transducer

1995
A novel transducer capable of transmitting and receiving airborne ultrasonic radiation at sub-mm wavelengths has been demonstrated experimentally in our laboratories to have significant advantages over alternative devices. The radiated beam profile is shown to depend directly on the characteristics of leaky Lamb waves propagating in immersed plates ...

Ultrasound transducer mounting assembly

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2002
The present invention provides a mounting assembly, for use with an ultrasound transducer attached to an ultrasound machine, for determining the spacial relationship between a succession of 2D image slices of a target of a subject, generated by the ultrasound machine.

Dual frequency band ultrasound transducer arrays

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2010
Ultrasound probes that transmits/receives ultrasound pulses with frequencies both in a low frequency (LF) and a high frequency (HF) band, where the radiation surfaces of said HF and LF bands at least have a common region. Several solutions for transmission (and reception) of LF and HF pulses through the same radiation surface are given.

Reducing nosocomial infections in ultrasound - cleaning ultrasound transducers

2017
Aims and objectives: Seven to ten procent of patients in Denmark incur a nosocomial infection. It is assumed that there can be a high risk of nosocomial infections at an ultrasound examination, due to the direct contact between the patient skin and the ultrasound...
