Fibre Ultrastructure

2018
Mammalian hair fibres can be structurally divided into three main components: a cuticle, cortex and sometimes a medulla. The cuticle consists of a thin layer of overlapping cells on the surface of the fibre, constituting around 10% of the total fibre weight. The cortex makes up the remaining 86-90% and is made up of axially aligned spindle-shaped cells

Ultrastructure of elastin.

Ciba Foundation symposium, 1995
Almost all structural studies on elastin have been done in higher vertebrates, in which it is organized as an extracellular network of branched fibres which vary from fractions f microns to several microns in diameter. By conventional electron microscopy, elastin appears amorphous.

The ultrastructure of pinealomas

Acta Neuropathologica, 1973
Four pinealomas of the two-cell type (atypical teratomas) were investigated by electron microscopy. They all showed the same unique histological ultrastructure. The lymphocyte-like cells did not differ ultrastructurally from lymphocytes. Many plasma cells with well-developed rough surfaced endoplasmic reticulum were also seen.

Ultrastructure of rhabdomyoma

Journal of Ultrastructure Research, 1967
Ultrastructural studies of rhabdomyoma, a rare benign human tumor, confirm its origin from skeletal muscle and differentiate it from other tumors, such as granular cell myoblastoma with which it may be confused by light microscopy. Evidence is presented that characteristic “crystals” observed by light microscopy in rhabdomyoma are in fact modified and ...

The ultrastructure of a keloid

Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 1980
An active, symptomatic keloid from a 57-year-old woman was examined by both light and electron microscopy. The lesion was found to be comprised entirely of myofibroblasts. Fibroblasts in keloids can apparently undergo full transition to this smooth muscle-like cell.

Ultrastructure of dermatofibroma

Archiv fr Dermatologische Forschung, 1973
Eight dermatofibromas were studied by electron microscopy. The essential cell was the fibroblast, characterized by a well developed rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER), a distinct Golgi zone and large numbers of cytofilaments. The fibroblast of the dermatofibroma was engaged in collagen production and fat storage.

Ultrastructure of a “Pineocytoma”

Journal of Neuropathology & Experimental Neurology, 1975
The commonest pineal gland tumor, the germinoma, is more apparently related to germ cells than to pineal cells. Although ultrastructural studies of this tumor have confirmed this similarity, comparable characterization of a pineocytoma has not been reported, due to its rarity.

Ultrastructure of Oligodendrogliomas

1981
The study of 18 oligodendrogliomas shows a number of characteristics which indicate a common hypothelial stem cell. The main cytologic characteristics are: a) high number of mitochondria, frequently atypical; b) polygonal crystalline structures in the cytoplasm in most of the tumors studied, and c) cytoplasmic microtubuli. None of these characteristics

The ultrastructure of chloroplasts

Experimental Cell Research, 1955
1. 1. On ultrathin sections of chloroplasts from Aspidistra elatior the electron microscopic study has revealed that the grana consist of layered columns. 2. 2. The grana are organized in double membrane discs the two membranes of which are about 65 A thick. These membranes bound a narrow, closed space the height of which also is about 65 A. The
