Fucosidosis – II. Ultrastructure
Neuropediatrics, 1977The ultrastructural changes of a sural nerve biopsy, liver biopsy and the autopsy of a case (I) of fucosidosis are described. Light microscopy revealed the presence of foam cells in various organs. The contents of the vacuoles stained positive with P.A.S. and Sudan.

Guanophores in the back skin of the adult tree frog have been studied with an electron microscope. The cytoplasm is characterized by numerous needle- or platelet-like clear spaces which are incompletely surrounded by their own limiting membranes.

The fine structure of five cerebral aneurysms, four early aneurysmal changes, and three arteriovenous aneurysms (two cerebral and one spinal) were investigated from surgical and autopsy specimens. Each lesion was characterized by thickening, lamination, redundancy, and separation of basement membranes, abundant cellular debris, and a paucity or absence

Almost all structural studies on elastin have been done in higher vertebrates, in which it is organized as an extracellular network of branched fibres which vary from fractions f microns to several microns in diameter. By conventional electron microscopy, elastin appears amorphous.
