The better to eat you with: morphological disparity and enamel ultrastructure in odontocetes

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Variations in the shape and size of teeth have been associated with changes in enamel ultrastructure across odontocetes. Characterizing these features in extinct taxa can elucidate their functional morphology and feeding strategy, while also shedding ...

Taming the Immiscibility of Gold, Iron, and Boron to Craft Chemodegradable Nanoparticles for Multimodal Imaging and Radiotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Over half of cancer patients undergo radiotherapy. Laser ablation enabled the synthesis of immiscible Au‐Fe‐B nanoparticles designed as degradable bimodal radiosensitizers for X‐ray radiotherapy (XRT), boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT), and bimodal imaging for X‐ray computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). These nanosensitizers

Evaluation of the Dual Impact of Nanotechnologies on Health and Environment Through Alternative Bridging Models

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores how alternative invertebrate and small‐vertebrate models advance the evaluation of nanomaterials across medicine and environmental science. By bridging cellular and organismal levels, these models enable integrated assessment of toxicity, biodistribution, and therapeutic performance.

Dopa-stained melanocytes in the macular lesions of early leprosy

open access: yesHansenologia Internationalis, 1996
The mechanism of association of hypopigmentation and sensorial loss in a leprosy macular lesions has not been clarified yet. The biopsy of a macular lesion on the medial face of the right forearm of a fourteen-year old male leprosy patient was submitted

Ultrastructure of elastofibroma [PDF]

open access: yesCancer, 1977
An elastofibroma from a 69-year-old white man was studied by light and electron microscopy. The lesion was comprised of abundant collagen fibers and numerous randomly disposed masses of amorphous elastinophilic material. Ultrastructurally, this material appeared to be derived from a markedly dense, finely fibrillar precursor secreted by fibroblasts and

Wound Geometry Determines Whether Aligned‐Fiber Scaffolds Accelerate or Impede Diabetic Wound Healing: A Biased Random Walk Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Wound closure is governed by geometry‐orientation coupling: aligned fibers speed migration along their axis but hinder perpendicular advance. In vivo diabetic wound experiments with composition‐matched fibrin, combined with an anisotropic diffusion (biased random‐walk) model, quantify this trade‐off and generate a healing landscape.

Zinc‐Containing Bioactive Glass Programs Macrophage Polarization through Extracellular Traps Regulation for Enhanced Diabetic Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Zinc‐containing bioactive glass (ZnBG) promotes diabetic wound healing by regulating macrophage extracellular traps (METs). Specifically, ZnBG reduces oxidative stress and inhibits the PAD4 and NLRP3/caspase‐1/GSDMD signaling pathways, thereby suppressing MET formation.

Effects of Maternal Undernutrition on Glomerular Ultrastructure in Rat Offspring

open access: yesPediatrics and Neonatology, 2009
Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) can reduce glomerular number and increase blood pressure in rats. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of maternal undernutrition during late gestation on glomerular ultrastructure in adult rat offspring.

Nanotherapies for Atherosclerosis: Targeting, Catalysis, and Energy Transduction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Atherosclerosis management is hindered by poor drug targeting and plaque heterogeneity. Nanotechnology overcomes these barriers via three core strategies: (1) target‐engineered nanocarriers that achieve lesion‐specific precision via ligand modification, biomimetic camouflage, stimuli‐responsive release, and self‐propelling nanomotors; (2) catalytic ...

Effect of N6-benzyladenine and indole-3-butyric acid on photosynthetic apparatus of Orthosiphon stamineus plants grown in vitro

open access: yesBiologia Plantarum, 2012
The leaf structure and chloroplast ultrastructure of kidney tea (Orthosiphon stamineus Benth.) was studied in in vitro culture on standard MS medium supplemented with or without plant growth regulators (PGRs).
