Oviposition behavior is not affected by ultraviolet light in a butterfly with sexually-dimorphic expression of a UV-sensitive opsin. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2023
Our study focuses on the evolution of sexual dimorphism of UV vision in Heliconius butterflies. Under naturalistic light conditions, we experimentally altered UV‐light availability using light filters to test the hypothesis that, in H. erato, UV vision is important for oviposition, a female‐specific behavior.

Radiación ultravioleta

open access: yesCiencia Y Tecnología Para La Salud Visual Y Ocular, 2007
Energy coming from the sun that affects the Earth surface is mainly made up infrared, visible and ultra violet (UV) radiation. The solar spectrum portion belonging to UV (almost 7%) affects life on Earth. Small quantities of UV are necessary for human beings to assimilate vitamin D; in plants under normal conditions, help the photosynthesis process ...

FINDeM: A CRISPR‐based, molecular method for rapid, inexpensive and field‐deployable organism detection

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 12, Page 3055-3067, December 2023., 2023
Abstract The field of ecology has undergone a molecular revolution, with researchers increasingly relying on DNA‐based methods for organism detection. Unfortunately, these techniques often require expensive equipment, dedicated laboratory spaces and specialized training in molecular and computational techniques; limitations that may exclude field ...

A Radiação Ultravioleta e o Desporto

open access: yesRevista de Medicina Desportiva Informa, 2021
Sun exposure can be a cause of skin aggression, causing burns and skin cancer. The desired ultraviolet radiation for tanning and synthesis of vitamin D is responsible for the aggression and it can be monitored through the ultraviolet index. The literature review reveals that athletes place little value on individual protection against this radiation ...

Life Smart Fertirrigation: Integrated Pig Manure Processing for Direct Injection of Organic Liquid Fertilizer into Irrigation Systems

open access: yesProceedings, 2020
Spain is Europe’s second largest producer of pork with 99.561 pig farms. The excess of manure available in intensive pig breeding areas in combination with lack of land to spread it on, needs addressing.
