Iron Cones in the Burials of Ulus Jochi: Aspects of Ethnocultural Identification
Cone-shaped objects, rolled from iron and bronze sheets, are found in the Golden Horde burials of the late 13th – early 15th centuries. The authors collected information on more than 100 burials with iron and bronze cones located in the territory of Ulus Jochi. This article is examines material from 78 iron cone burials.

The article examines the Genghisid kurultai held in 1235. The author notes that in many aspects the kurultai of 1235 not only differed from other similar kurultais, but did not quite fit into the political reality of the early imperial period. The author examines in some detail the purpose of the new Western campaign of the Tatar-Mongols.

We present an archaeological study of medieval burials of warriors in the Karasuyr cemetery in the northwestern Betpakdala desert, near the southern Ulytau range in central Kazakhstan. The region was an eastern province of the Golden Horde, a ritual center of Jochi’s clan and later Mongol rulers until the late 16th century.

The Albarello Vessels from the Lower Volga Capitals of the Jochi Ulus [PDF]
A typological analysis of the albarello as a form of glazed red clay ceramics, which was produced in the Golden Horde cities of the Lower Volga river region, is provided in the article. The albarelli were intended for medicines and aromatic substances, but they could also be used as inkpots.
