RNAi reveals a unique set of kinesins mediating chloroplast motility in the giant cytoplasm of Bryopsis (Ulvophyceae), a coenocytic green alga.

Journal of Phycology
RNA interference (RNAi) is a powerful tool for protein knockdown and is widely used in model animals and plants. Here, we implemented RNAi in Bryopsis, a green feather alga that develops a coenocytic thallus >10 cm in length without cytokinesis. In vitro-

Flip‐flop organization in the chloroplast genome of Capsosiphon fulvescens (Ulvophyceae, Chlorophyta)

Journal of Phycology, 2018
To better understand organelle genome evolution of the ulvophycean green alga Capsosiphon fulvescens, we sequenced and characterized its complete chloroplast genome. The circular chloroplast genome was 111,561 bp in length with 31.3% GC content that contained 108 genes including 77 protein‐coding genes, two copies of rRNA operons, and 27 tRNAs. In this

Cosmid library of the marine macroalga Bryopsis maxima (Bryopsidales, Ulvophyceae)

Phycological Research, 2002
SUMMARY The purpose of this study was to construct a cosmid library from chromosomal DNA of a marine macroalga, Bryopsis maxima Okamura ex Segawa (Bryopsidales, Ulvophyceae), in a rapid, simple and inexpensive manner. In the DNA purification, polysaccharides were removed by covalently binding them to resin particles containing free boric acid groups.

SYSTEMATICS OF ULVACEAE (ULVOPHYCEAE, CHLOROPHYTA) USING NUCLEAR AND CHLOROPLAST DNA SEQUENCES

Journal of Phycology, 2000
Ulvaceae are morphologically simple, cosmopolitan green macroalgae. Family members, particularly species of Ulva and Enteromorpha, are prevalent in coastal ecosystems and responsible for “green tide” events around the world. Little is known about the evolutionary history of Ulvaceae.

Anti-inflammatory Effects of Polyphenol Extracts from Ulva linza (Ulvophyceae, Chlorophyta)

Toxicology and Environmental Health Sciences, 2018
Ulvoid macroalgal blooms are frequently observed in coastal oceans worldwide. Because of the very high potential for outbreaks of these blooms, many researches have recently become focused on the utilization of natural products extracted from these otherwise commercially worthless seaweeds.

Ultrastructure of the biflagellate gametes of Collinsiella cava (Ulvophyceae, Chlorophyta)

Phycological Research, 2000
SUMMARY The fine structure of the biflagellate gametes of Collinsiella cava (Yendo) Printz was investigated in detail to clarify the species's taxonomic and phylo-genetic position. Gametes are covered by small square scales with no distinct substructure.

SEPTUM FORMATION IN THE GREEN ALGA ULOTHRIX PALUSALSA (CHLOROPHYTA, ULVOPHYCEAE)

Acta Botanica Neerlandica, 1987
SUMMARY The ultrastructure of cell division, with the emphasis on septum formation, is described in the ulvophycean green alga Ulothrixpalusalsa Lokhorst. Septum formation involves a cleavage furrow which is initiated before the onset of mitosis. The development of the cleavage furrow is most pronounced at the final mitotic stages when it shows a ...

Cell fusion and planozygote formation of anisogametes without eyespots in the marine green macroalga Codium fragile (Suringar) Hariot (Ulvophyceae, Chlorophyta)

Phycological Research
In the planozygotes of chlorophytes, parental flagella and eyespot(s) are generally arranged in a coordinated manner in the cell following the fertilization of biflagellate gametes.

Temperature‐driven dynamics of epiphytic bacterial communities in Caulerpa prolifera and Caulerpa taxifolia (Chlorophyta; Ulvophyceae): Implications for algae adaptation

Phycological Research
This study examines the response of the Mediterranean native macroalgae Caulerpa prolifera and of its allochthonous invasive congeneric C. taxifolia to temperature and explores the structure of their associated epiphytic bacterial community ...

Ultrastructure and taxonomy of the genusEndophyton(Ulvales, Ulvophyceae)

European Journal of Phycology, 1997
Fine structure of vegetative cells, development and morphology of sporangia and general morphology of zoospores were studied for the first time in the genus Endophyton Gardner. Vegetative cells contained one parietal perforate chloroplast with 2–4 ulvophycean pyrenoids and transverse cell walls without plasmodesmata. Sporangial walls were formed by two
