Disruption of ATP Synthase Spatiotemporal Organization, Ca2+ Dynamics, and Contractile Function in Senescent Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 2, February 2026.
Enhanced ATP hydrolysis, ΔΨm flickering, and destabilized ATP synthase dimers collectively reduce ATP availability in senescent cardiomyocytes. This energy deficit is associated with disrupted Ca2⁺ dynamics and contractility. ABSTRACT Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the elderly population.

High Fluctuating Asymmetry in Birds in a Large Neotropical City

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 51, Issue 2, February 2026.
Urbanisation is a powerful environmental force, negatively impacting the few organisms that persist in urban areas. Here, we investigated the relationship between urbanisation intensity and Fluctuating asymmetry (FA) in birds. Our results suggest that urbanisation (even at lower intensities) may impose stronger genetic and/or environmental stress on ...

The role of tropical forest fragment vegetation in maintaining arthropod diversity and spillover to adjacent sugarcane fields O papel da vegetação de fragmentos de floresta tropical na manutenção da diversidade de artrópodes e na sua disseminação para campos de cana‐de‐açúcar adjacentes

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, Volume 28, Issue 1, Page 82-93, February 2026.
Tree diversity increases arthropod richness and the abundance of beneficial arthropod groups within Atlantic Forest fragments. Higher insect richness in forest fragments is associated with greater richness in adjacent sugarcane fields, and both habitats share insect families, suggesting spillover.

Re‐theorizing the Sexual Minority Closet: Evidence From Queer South Asian Women

open access: yesCanadian Review of Sociology/Revue canadienne de sociologie, Volume 63, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Scholarship generally assumes the closet is a place of safety from the perceived risks associated with coming out. However, this overlooks its function as a source of violence, particularly for those belonging to multiple marginalized communities.

Mitigating the Negative Transfer in Multi‐Task Learning for Harmful Language Detection in Spanish and Arabic

open access: yesExpert Systems, Volume 43, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Negative transfer continues to limit the benefits of multi‐task learning (MTL) in harmful language detection, where related tasks must share representations without diluting task‐specific nuances. We introduce task awareness (TA), a methodological framework that explicitly conditions MTL models on the task they must solve.
