Antioxidant role of Umbelliferone in STZ-diabetic rats

Life Sciences, 2006
The objective of the study was to investigate the role of Umbelliferone (UMB) on lipid peroxidation, nonenzymic and enzymic antioxidants in the plasma and liver of streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Adult male albino rats of Wistar strain, weighing 180-200 g, were induced diabetes by administration of STZ (40 mg/kg b.wt.) intraperitoneally ...

Influence of Umbelliferone on Glycoprotein Components in Diabetic Rats

Toxicology Mechanisms and Methods, 2007
ABSTRACT Umbelliferone (7-hydroxycoumarin), a derivative of coumarin, is benzopyrone in nature, and it is present in the fruits of golden apple (Aegle marmelos Correa) and bitter orange (Citrus aurantium). The present study was designed with the objective of evaluating the effect of umbelliferone (UMB) on glycemic control and glycoprotein components in

Ultrafast resonance energy transfer in the umbelliferone–alizarin bichromophore

Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys., 2014
Fast and efficient intramolecular energy transfer takes place in the umbelliferone–alizarin bichromophore; the process is well described by the Förster mechanism.

Investigation of Binding Properties of Umbelliferone (7Hydroxycoumarin) to Lysozyme

Journal of Fluorescence, 2012
The binding interaction of lysozyme and umbelliferone (7hydroxcoumarin, 7HC) was investigated by UV-vis absorption and fluorescence quenching. It was obtained from fluorescence spectra that the fluorescence quenching of lysozyme by 7HC was probably a result of the formation of lysozyme-7HC complex and binding parameters were determined according to the

Studies on glucoside intermediates in umbelliferone biosynthesis

Phytochemistry, 1965
Abstract Two umbelliferone-producing glucosides have been found in Hydrangea macrophylla leaf extracts. By chromatographic characterization and comparison with the synthetic compounds, they have been identified as skimmin (7-β- d -glucosyloxycoumarin) and cis-2,4-di-β- d -glucosyloxycinnamic acid. Skimmin is by far the major component.

Gustatory receptors required for sensing umbelliferone in Drosophila melanogaster

Insect Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2015
Studies of taste modality using the animal model Drosophila melanogaster have elucidated a number of uncharacterized mechanisms of sensory responses. Gustatory receptors expressed in taste organs are not only responsible for the acceptance and rejection of different foods, but are also involved in the process of selecting an oviposition site.

Anti-inflammatory and proapoptotic effects of umbelliferone in colon carcinogenesis

Human & Experimental Toxicology, 2016
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a serious health problem throughout the world. 5-Flurouracil, the first-line chemotherapy of colorectal cancer often produces more toxicity to neighboring cells; however, it is still used for CRC treatment. To overcome this, umbelliferone (UMB), a less toxic bioflavonoid has been used to test its anticancer effects on animal ...

Determination of Coumarin and Umbelliferone Mixtures in Whole Blood by Spectrophotofluorometry

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1976
A spectrophotofluorometric method is described for the quantitative analysis of coumarin, umbelliferone, and mixtures thereof in whole blood. The two drugs were selectively isolated from blood by solvent extraction. Analysis of the isolated coumarin was based on the measurement of the fluorophore at activation and emission wavelengths of 361 and 491 nm,

Umbelliferone Alleviates Myocardial Ischemia: the Role of Inflammation and Apoptosis

Inflammation, 2017
The present study was to investigate cardioprotective effects of umbelliferone (Umb) on coronary artery ligation-induced myocardial ischemia. The model of myocardial ischemia (MI) was induced by ligatured the left anterior descending coronary artery of SD rats.
