Endothelial heterogeneity in the umbilico-placental unit: DNA methylation as an innuendo of epigenetic diversity

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2014
The endothelium is a multifunctional heterogeneous tissue playing a key role in the physiology of every organ. To accomplish this role the endothelium presents a phenotypic diversity that is early prompted during vascular development, allowing it to cope

The conception, birth, and growth of a missile umbilical system [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
The design development was traced for the sprint 2 and improved sprint 2 missile system (ISMS) umbilical system. The unique system requirements, umbilical designs considered to meet the requirements, and the problems encountered and solutions derived ...

Umbilical Concretion

open access: yesJournal of Radiology Case Reports, 2011
Umbilical concretion is a rarely encountered benign entity. Concretions typically form within an umbilical cleft which is unusually deep and consist of keratinaceous and sebaceous material. Lack of attention to umbilical hygiene usually plays a role in their formation.

Exosomes derived from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells alleviate liver fibrosis.

open access: yesStem Cells and Development, 2013
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been considered as an attractive tool for the therapy of diseases. Exosomes excreted from MSCs can reduce myocardial ischemia/reperfusion damage and protect against acute tubular injury.

Bioorthogonal Engineering of Cellular Microenvironments Using Isonitrile Ligations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Highly selective chemistries are required for fabrication and post‐cross–linking modification of cell‐encapsulating hydrogels used in tissue engineering applications. Isonitrile ligation reactions represent a promising class of bioorthogonal chemistries for engineering hydrogel‐based cellular microenvironments. Isonitrile‐based hydrogels are stable and

Umbilical sepsis

open access: yesJournal of British Surgery, 1989
Abstract Pilonidal sinus of the umbilicus is rarely reported, and there are only 17 reported cases. On reviewing the records from Jordan University Hospital, 24 patients who were treated surgically for a discharging umbilical sinus were found.

Engineered Peptides‐Based Hybrid‐Nested Microneedle Effectively Treat Biofilm‐Infected Diabetic Wounds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid‐nested microneedle/cryogel scaffold (MQW‐CMg‐MOF) is designed for efficient biofilm removal and accelerated healing of diabetic wounds. The scaffold shows substantial biofilm removal in vitro and in a preclinical diabetic swine biofilm‐infected wound model compared to the control.

Intraoral Drug Delivery: Bridging the Gap Between Academic Research and Industrial Innovations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intraoral drug delivery offers a promising route for systemic and localized therapies, yet challenges such as enzymatic degradation, limited permeability, and microbial interactions hinder efficacy. This figure highlights innovative strategies—mucoadhesive materials, enzyme inhibitors, and permeation enhancers—to overcome these barriers.
