AbstractIncarceration of liver tissue in a hernia of the umbilical cord is a rare occurrence. An incarceration of the gall bladder is even rarer. We report such a case in a newborn that had incarceration of both liver and gall bladder in to the umbilical cord.

A full term male infant was admitted to hospital with evisceration of the abdominal contents through the ventral abdominal wall (figure 1). Examination revealed a skin-lined umbilical ring with eviscerated loops of bowel present within a membrane. The umbilical cord was inserted normally at the umbilical ring.
