A comparative study on the mechanical properties of the umbilical vein and umbilical artery under uniaxial loading

open access: yesArtery Research, 2014
Purpose: Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is the main cause of mortalities worldwide. The Saphenous Vein (SV) and Umbilical Vein (UV) are the most common veins using for treatment as a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG).

Transient hepatic attenuation difference or fat sparing? Aberrant right gastric vein determining a pseudolesion at the border of the IInd/IIIrd liver segments. Review of developmental concepts

open access: yesFolia Morphologica
The aberrant right gastric vein (ARGV) is a rare anatomical variation. It can be responsible for unexplained hyperdensities in the hepatic parenchyma on CT scans, also known as third inflow effects.

Our Experiences with Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters in Newborn Infants

open access: yesSakarya Tıp Dergisi, 2019
Objective Preterm babies are followed in neonatal intensive care units (NICU)  for long times, so they need long-term vascular access. For long-term vascular access umbilical vein catheters, central venous catheters and peripherally inserted central ...

Cruveilhier - Baumgarten syndrome with multiple splenic artery aneurysms: A case report

open access: yesMedical Journal of Dr. D.Y. Patil University, 2016
Cruveilhier - Baumgarten (CB) syndrome is a rare medical condition in which liver cirrhosis is associated with portal hypertension causing dilatation of the umbilical and the paraumbilical veins (giant paraumbilical vein).

Sustained Maternal Smoking Triggers Endothelial-Mediated Oxidative Stress in the Umbilical Cord Vessels, Resulting in Vascular Dysfunction

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2021
Nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability is fundamental in the regulation of redox balance and functionality of the endothelium, especially in the case of the umbilical cord (UC), which has no innervation.

In Vitro Vasoactive Effects of Levobupivacaine and Ropivacaine on the Isolated Human Umbilical Artery and Vein

open access: yesBalkan Medical Journal, 2011
Objective: In this in vitro study, we investigated the vasoactive effects of levobupivacaine and ropivacaine on vascular smooth muscle derived from human umbilical arteries and veins.Material and Methods: The strips were mounted in tissue baths at 37°C ...

Recanalized umbilical vein in portal hypertension [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Roentgenology, 1982
Experience with splenoportography suggests that patency of the umbilical vein occurs in about 9% of the patients with portal hypertension. A widely patent umbilical vein might serve as a decompressive portosystemic shunt. Percutaneous transhepatic portography was performed in 107 patients with cirrhosis of the liver and portal hypertension.
