Autosomal dominant flat umbilicus

AbstractWe describe a Chinese family among whom five members in three generations had a flat umbilicus with vertical and male to male transmission indicative of autosomal dominant inheritance. Except the proband, who also had Tetralogy of Fallot, other affected members had a flat umbilicus as an isolated anomaly.

Endometriosis of the Umbilicus

A 39-year-old woman with a history of prolonged and excessive vaginal bleeding and bleeding from the umbilicus was found to have umbilical endometriosis. The umbilicus was excised following hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Umbilical endometriosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of umbilical lesions.

Endometriosis is a common phenomenon. Most cases reported are pelvic endometriosis which cause typical symptoms. Cutaneous endometriosis is rare, usually appearing in surgical scars or following surgical procedures. Umbilical endometriosis can occur after surgery but is generally spontaneous.
