The classical umbral calculus: Sheffer sequences
Following the approach of Rota and Taylor \cite{SIAM}, we present an innovative theory of Sheffer sequences in which the main properties are encoded by using umbrae. This syntax allows us noteworthy computational simplifications and conceptual clarifications in many results involving Sheffer sequences.

ABSTRACT Policymakers organize and frequently communicate safety net policies, such as eligibility guidelines around administrative categories. The potential effects on how these thresholds are communicated remain empirically unexplored. We examined if communication either in terms of the Federal Poverty Line (FPL)‐ or dollar‐form alters preferences ...

Recursive matrices and umbral calculus
Two major objectives can be seen to guide much recent work in enumeration: (1) to single out a limited variety of recurrences for numerical sequences which will encompass counting problems of wide-enough type; (2) to recover from empirical data an underlying set-theoretic structure which would reveal the source of the given recursion.

An infinite dimensional umbral calculus [PDF]
The aim of this paper is to develop foundations of umbral calculus on the space $\mathcal D'$ of distributions on $\mathbb R^d$, which leads to a general theory of Sheffer polynomial sequences on $\mathcal D'$. We define a sequence of monic polynomials on $\mathcal D'$, a polynomial sequence of binomial type, and a Sheffer sequence.

Abstract Forest cover is positively associated with fish biomass and fisheries yield in the Amazon River floodplain, and many species enter flooded forests to feed, spawn, or seek refuge from predation. Floating macrophyte beds, known as floating meadows, in Amazon floodplains support high fish diversity and serve as nursery habitat for many fishes of ...

ABSTRACT This paper provides a retrospective on California's oversight of 1,3‐dichloropropene (1,3‐D). It utilizes archival documents, including internal memos, emails, and risk assessments, to demonstrate how the state's Department of Pesticide Regulation consistently expanded allowable 1,3‐D use while presenting each policy change as scientifically ...

Abstract The identification of organisms in environmental samples using metabarcoding relies on factors such as taxonomic assignment methods, genetic markers, reference databases and confidence thresholds for taxonomic assignment. Because lineages evolve at different rates, a global threshold (e.g.

Quantum mechanics and umbral calculus
In this paper we present the first steps for obtaining a discrete Quantum Mechanics making use of the Umbral Calculus. The idea is to discretize the continuous Schroedinger equation substituting the continuous derivatives by discrete ones and the space-time continuous variables by well determined operators that verify some Umbral Calculus conditions ...

ABSTRACT This study examines how military expenditure moderates the negative effect of terrorism on economic complexity in Europe. Terrorism is proxied by terrorism‐related incidences, fatalities, injuries, and hostages. The study utilizes a panel dataset comprising 33 European economies spanning the period 2011–2022.
