Field Studies on the Influence of High‐Voltage Direct Transmission Underground Cables on Soils Along the SuedLink Route in Southwest Germany

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, EarlyView.
During regular operation of the SuedLink at a load ≤75 %, the average increase in temperature in the plowing horizon is expected to be less than 1.6°C in the soils along the route in Southwest Germany. ABSTRACT Background The SuedLink was planned as a high‐voltage direct‐current underground cable route. The construction itself is a massive intervention

Defect Passivation via Plasma Modification of Lead Halide Perovskite Thin Films

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, EarlyView.
We demonstrate that exposure of perovskite thin films to diffuse coplanar surface barrier discharge nitrogen plasma leads to an increase in photoluminescence, attributed to reduced defect densities. This results in implied open‐circuit voltage improvement of up to 80 mV and finalized solar cell open‐circuit gains up to 60 mV.

Researching sustainable agriculture: The role of values in systemic science [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
This paper presents a specific perspective on the science demarcation issue, the perspective of systemic science. A systemic science is a science that influences its own subject area.

Advancing Circular Strategies in Photovoltaics: Assessing Reuse Readiness Across Technical, Economic, and Environmental Dimensions in a Case Study

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, EarlyView.
This study examines the reuse readiness of photovoltaic modules through the Swiss PV Circle project. Results confirm technical feasibility with cost savings from targeted preselection, whereas economic viability depends on module age, testing, and market conditions.

Information is primary and central to meaning-making

open access: yesSign Systems Studies
There is the misconception that the concept of information is not applicable to meaning-making in living beings. What is more generally believed is that Peircean semiosis provides a more robust framework to explain meaning-making.

Gas Imports From Russia Cannot be Compensated in the Short Term

open access: yesWirtschaftsdienst, 2022
As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues, more and more people are calling for a ban on Russian energy imports. The proponents argue that abstaining from importing billions worth of coal, oil and gas will further increase the pressure on the Kremlin ...

Zukunftstechnologien bei der Stromerzeugung: Elektrizität im internationalen Vergleich

open access: yesPhysik in unserer Zeit, EarlyView.

Of bubbles and foams: Umwelt counterpoints in symbiosis

open access: yesSign Systems Studies
In recent years, our aim has been to expand the concept of ‘umwelt’ towards its evolutionary aspects. In this contribution, we argue that since the different lineages of life share their origins, they also share, at least to some extent, the ...
