A new model for the substorm growth phase [PDF]
Thesis (Ph.D.) University of Alaska Fairbanks, 2014.The physics of geomagnetic substorms has been under debate for a long time. In particular, the formation of a thin current sheet (CS) is a central unresolved problem because it provides the magnetotail ...

On the Properties of the Compound Nodal Admittance Matrix of Polyphase Power Systems
Most techniques for power system analysis model the grid by exact electrical circuits. For instance, in power flow study, state estimation, and voltage stability assessment, the use of admittance parameters (i.e., the nodal admittance matrix) and hybrid ...

Frequency-adaptive Virtual Flux estimation for grid synchronization under unbalanced conditions
This paper proposes a new and explicitly frequencyadaptive method for Virtual Flux estimation and voltage sensorless grid synchronization under unbalanced conditions. The proposed system is based on using Second Order Generalized Integrators, arranged to simultaneously fulfill the purposes of frequency-adaptive band-pass ...

Mapping the “Supply–Demand–Flow” of Ecosystem Services for Ecosystem Management in China
This study develops a “supply–demand–flow” framework clarifies how ecosystem services move between regions by distinguishing potential and actual supply and demand. Using integrated biophysical–socioeconomic modeling, nine services in China were mapped.

Due to the growing changes in the electrical network related to the new distributed generation scheme and the integration of renewable energy sources, new requirements for grid-connected power converters are being defined in the new grid codes. The injection of positive- and negativesequence current components is becoming necessary for achieving new ...

The Importance of Metal‐Organic Framework Linker Atoms for CO2 Reduction: A DFT Study
Using DFT, we examine the role of linker atoms in CO2 reduction on copper‐based metal organic frameworks (Cu MOFs). Our calculations reveal that linker atoms may serve as both CO2 and H‐shuttling sites and suggest linker electrostatics as a descriptor for linker activity. ABSTRACT Although the metal within the secondary building unit of a metal‐organic

Glaucoma, a major cause of blindness, involves retinal ganglion cell (RGC) degeneration. This study shows growth hormone‐releasing hormone receptor (GHRHR) deficiency preserves RGC survival and restores vision, unlike activation which only aids survival.

Vector and Matrix Optimal Mass Transport: Theory, Algorithm, and Applications
In many applications such as color image processing, data has more than one piece of information associated with each spatial coordinate, and in such cases the classical optimal mass transport (OMT) must be generalized to handle vector-valued or matrix ...

Model predictive control of MMC-UPFC under unbalanced grid conditions
Abstract This paper proposes a model predictive control (MPC) method to tackle the power flow control of the modular multilevel converter based unified power flow controller (MMC-UPFC) under unbalanced grid conditions. The predictive models corresponding to the discrete-time models of MMC-UPFC are derived.
