Matrix converter performance under unbalanced input-voltage

2008 40th North American Power Symposium, 2008
This paper is aimed to describe the matrix converter performance under unbalanced input-voltage condition. A detailed explanation is given showing the control strategy; this allows: (i) balanced output-voltages and currents, despite the unbalanced input-voltages; (ii) output-voltages' amplitudes and frequency control.

Residual harmonics in voltage unbalanced power systems

Industry Applications Society 40th Annual Petroleum and Chemical Industry Conference, 1994
The analysis of residual harmonics requires combining linear and nonlinear analysis into a computer algorithm. The mathematical techniques are to apply state space methods to solve the nonlinear loads such as converters in a time domain format, analyze the resulting waveform with a Fourier analysis to convert the data to the frequency domain, and then ...

Benefits of performing unbalanced voltage calculations

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1988
Methods for analyzing multigrounded systems incorporating most known parameters in technically accepted equations for solving distribution circuit voltage problems involving circuit unbalance are presented. Several distribution problems that are not generally identified using routine load flow programs but usually surface through customer complaints ...

Multi-pulse STATCOM operation under unbalanced voltages

2002 IEEE Power Engineering Society Winter Meeting. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.02CH37309), 2003
This work presents a study about static synchronous compensators (STATCOM) operating in electrical systems where the voltages are unbalanced and contain negative sequence components. In balanced systems the STATCOM has a very good performance, allowing compensation of capacitive or inductive reactive power with a fast transient response.

STATCOM Control for Operation with Unbalanced Voltages

2006 12th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference, 2006
In view of STATCOM operation analysis, special attention must be paid to the operation with unbalanced network voltages. In this paper a control algorithm that enables STATCOM operation with unbalanced voltages is presented. The algorithm is based on the compensator mathematical model in the d-q coordinate system.

Mitigation of Unbalanced Voltage Dips Using Static Series Compensator

IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2004
The static series compensator (SSC) is suited to protect sensitive loads against voltage dips. Because most of the power system faults are single- or double-phase, the control algorithms of the SSC should be adapted for unbalanced dips. This paper proposes two control strategies to improve the dynamic performance of the SSC.

Operation on Unbalanced Voltage: One Motor's Experience and More

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2006
Derating a motor for operation on an unbalanced voltage system is still much of a black art although National Electrical Manufacturers Association and International Electrotechnical Commission have generic derating charts for this application. Numerous papers have been written in an attempt to provide a theory for this operating mode and the losses ...

Voltage Recovery after Unbalanced and Balanced Voltage Dip in Three-Phase Systems

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 2002
This paper studies the recovery of the voltage after a voltage dip due to a fault in a three-phase system. The instant of voltage recovery corresponds to the instant of fault clearing. For single-phase and phase-to-phase faults, a single point-on-wave of voltage recovery can be defined. For two-phase-to-ground and three-phase faults, the recovery takes

A-C servomotor operation from unbalanced voltages

Electrical Engineering, 1960
MANY analytical studies directed at the predetermination of output characteristics of a-c servomotors have been predicated on the assumptions of constant source impedance and sinusoidal excitation. Under these assumptions, the method of symmetrical components serves admirably, particularly when steady-state characteristics are desired, and in cases ...

The current and voltage detection under nonsinusoidal and unbalanced voltage condition

2014 International Power Electronics and Application Conference and Exposition, 2014
The accurate and rapid detection of voltage and current in non-sinusoidal and unbalanced voltage condition is the prerequisite for grid power quality management and stable operation. Based on analyzing the vectors of the grid voltage and current, the rotating vector detection is carried out which can detect the voltage and current specified harmonic ...
