Visualizing Uncertainty with Uncertainty Multiples

GeoCongress 2006, 2006
It is difficult to depict uncertainty graphically. Conventional means, which rely on mapping uncertainty to graphical attributes in an image, have limited effectiveness because they require presenting additional variables and are not generally intuitive. The concept of uncertainty multiples is proposed herein to address these challenges.

Uncertainties

Science and Engineering Ethics, 2009
In contemporary science uncertainty is often represented as an intrinsic feature of natural and of human phenomena. As an example we need only think of two important conceptual revolutions that occurred in physics and logic during the first half of the twentieth century: (1) the discovery of Heisenberg's uncertainty principle in quantum mechanics; (2 ...

The price of uncertainty

Proceedings of the 10th ACM conference on Electronic commerce, 2009
In this work, we study the degree to which small fluctuations in costs in well-studied potential games can impact the result of natural best-response and improved-response dynamics. We call this the Price of Uncertainty and study it in a wide variety of potential games including fair cost-sharing games, set-cover ...

The uncertainty tree: Reducing the uncertainty of uncertainty analysis

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2002
Uncertainty analysis is an integral aspect of experimental measurements, though accurately assessing the flow of uncertainty in a measurement system—particularly for complicated systems with more than a few variables—can become a challenging, error-prone task, while being less enjoyable than it should be.

The influence of uncertainty and intolerance of uncertainty on anxiety

Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry, 2018
Although the influence of uncertainty and intolerance of uncertainty (IU) on anxiety pathologies has been well-established, only a few studies examined the interaction between uncertainty and IU in producing anxiety. Meanwhile, there is a lack of research utilizing experimental methods to manipulate the situational uncertainty.

Sovereign Uncertainty

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2019
Abstract This article investigates the impact and transmission of uncertainty regarding the future path of government finances on economic activity. Employing a data‐rich approach, I introduce a novel proxy that captures uncertainty surrounding public finances, which I refer to as sovereign ...
