High‐Spatiotemporal‐Resolution Transparent Thermoelectric Temperature Sensor Arrays Reveal Temperature‐Dependent Windows for Reversible Photothermal Neuromodulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Thermoelectric temperature sensors are developed that directly measure heat changes during optical‐based neural stimulation with millisecond precision. The sensors reveal the temperature windows for safe reversible neural modulation: 1.4–4.5 °C enables reversible neural inhibition, while temperatures above 6.1 °C cause permanent thermal damage.

Harmonizing the Pyrene and Ether Groups in Covalent Triazine Polymers for Highly Effective H2O2 Photosynthesis via One‐Step Two‐Electron Oxygen Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The pyrene and ether groups are incorporated into the covalent triazine polymer (CTP) structure. The synergistic effect of the two functional groups endows CTP with better electron transfer, light absorption, and oxygen activation properties. An impressive apparent quantum yield (13.2% @420 nm) and a remarkable solar‐to‐chemical conversion efficiency ...

Two‐Dimensional Materials as a Multiproperty Sensing Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Various sensing modalities enabled and/or enhanced by two‐dimensional (2D) materials are reviewed. The domains considered for sensing include: 1) optoelectronics, 2) quantum defects, 3) scanning probe microscopy, 4) nanomechanics, and 5) bio‐ and chemosensing.

Model Uncertainty Analysis

2023
Uncertainty analysis of model parameters is critical in assessing the reliability and usefulness of a model’s predictions. In this chapter, we illustrate and discuss different uncertainty analysis methods. We present both frequentist and Bayesian approaches for uncertainty quantification.

Interactive uncertainty analysis

Proceedings of the 2012 ACM international conference on Intelligent User Interfaces, 2012
Humans have difficulty evaluating the effects of uncertainty on schedules. People often mitigate the effects of uncertainty by adding slack based on experience and non-stochastic analyses such as the critical path method (CPM). This is costly as it leads to longer than necessary schedules, and can be ineffective without a clear understanding of where ...

Uncertainty analysis of thermoreflectance measurements

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2016
We derive a generally applicable formula to calculate the precision of multi-parameter measurements that apply least squares algorithms. This formula, which accounts for experimental noise and uncertainty in the controlled model parameters, is then used to analyze the uncertainty of thermal property measurements with pump-probe thermoreflectance ...

Investment Analysis Under Uncertainty

Management Science, 1969
Investment projects are described in this paper as a pattern of uncertain cash flows over time; i.e., as a cash flow pattern over an event tree. Whereas the portfolio problem of selecting projects generally requires simultaneous consideration of all available projects, here we seek sufficient conditions for accepting and rejecting individual projects.
